MLS 2018 – Toronto FC vs Real Salt Lake Betting Preview

The Easter weekend of action in the MLS kicks off on Friday night when the champions are back in action after their bye week. They host Real Salt Lake in a match where both sides will be eyeing up a win which should make for a good game.

Both these sides have the opportunity to steal a march on the other teams in their Conferences with the remainder of the fixtures this weekend coming on Saturday evening.

Toronto FC

When the season began there would not have been many people that would have expected the champions to lose their opening two matches and with that I dare say Toronto FC themselves would not have expected that, especially as they had an advantage on a number of sides given that they have been playing in the North American Champions League.

I wouldn’t expect anyone in Toronto to be panicking just yet but a defeat here might get the think tank interested and the pulses racing. The big concern has been how light they have looked in front of goal. Toronto have had a couple of weeks off since their last match to reflect and put things right and it will be interesting to see how they go here.

Real Salt Lake

It is fair to say that we don’t know a huge amount about Real Salt Lake although anyone who saw their TV clash with the new franchise LAFC won’t think much about them. They were given a good going over that day but other than that they have been competitive. They go into the contest off the back of a win over the New York Red Bulls two weeks ago.

RSL have scored once in every game they have played this season but in the main they have been tight enough defensively. LAFC opened them up at will and while we don’t know for sure whether that was a one off or a bad thing my gut instinct is that the Los Angeles side will do that to a number of sides this season.

Team News

Toronto FC have a couple of issues going into the match with Justin Morrow rated questionable despite a calf strain while Chris Mavinga is expected to play despite an issue with his abdomen.

Real Salt Lake will definitely be without Tony Beltran and Jordan Allen while Marcelo Silva, Joao Plata and Aaron Herrera are all rated as questionable although you would expect them to want to get all three on the park.

Betting

I’ve a feeling we might have a low key opening to proceedings this weekend. I saw that because Toronto FC have got their Champions League semi-final next week so you would think they will hold something back for that while Real Salt Lake are not the most expansive outfit in MLS.

Had Toronto FC not started the season as badly as they have they might even have thought about rotating their key men. Given their start I expect them to be all out to win but perhaps not to run the score up. Real Salt Lake are proficient enough defensively so under 3 goals looks like the way to begin the weekend to me.
