MLS 2018 – Wednesday 29th August Matches Betting Preview

Another set of midweek matches in Major League Soccer takes place on Wednesday evening when four games take place across both Conferences. We are entering the home straight in the regular season now and every match will be significant.

We have to wait until the weekend for the next set of games that are live on TV in the UK so we will be heading for the streams to follow these matches. Although there is some great sport on in America this week there are a number of streaming options.

Wednesday’s fixtures are as follows: (Thursday morning UK time in brackets)

DC United vs Philadelphia Union (01.00)

New York Red Bulls vs Houston Dynamo (01.00)

Portland Timbers vs Toronto FC (03.30)

San Jose Earthquakes vs FC Dallas (03.30)

Preview

The two standout matches are the ones in Washington and Portland. DC United can move to within three points of the playoffs if they can see off the Philadelphia Union on what is set to be a scorching evening in DC while over the West the points are huge for Portland Timbers and Toronto FC as they go in search of a postseason spot. Neither side currently occupy one of those positions so wins are a must for each.

Elsewhere the New York Red Bulls can take the lead in the race for the Supporters’ Shield when they host a Houston Dynamo who are bang out of form and who have completely lost the plot in recent times it must be said. FC Dallas have the chance to open up a four point lead in the Western Conference if they can find a win at San Jose Earthquakes.

Betting

I was tempted to get involved with DC United against Philadelphia Union but the extreme heat that game will be played in is putting me off and to be fair Philadelphia have won three of their last four on the road so it may not be as easy a game for DC as it looked a couple of weeks ago. There is one bet I like however.

To be fair conditions may not be much more comfortable in New York where the New York Red Bulls face the Houston Dynamo but both sides will be used to that sort of climate at this time of year. I’m expecting a pretty open match. Houston have nothing to gain by trying to drag a match out for a draw. They can’t do that anyway. It isn’t their style. New York Red Bulls are absolutely flying at the minute and have plenty of goals in them to take advantage of this vulnerable Houston side. Over 3 goals should land with a bit in hand here.
