MLS 2019 – DC United vs Montreal Impact Betting Preview

There are two matches in the MLS this midweek with the first of those taking place on Tuesday evening, or the early hours of Wednesday morning for those of us who are in the UK. It is an Eastern Conference clash between DC United and Montreal Impact at Audi Field.

The home side go into this match off the back of something of a battering at the weekend whereas the Impact have had a couple of indifferent results recently so both teams have something to prove here. The match is live on FreeSports for us in the UK.

DC United

It had been a good start to the campaign for DC United but they unravelled somewhat on Saturday evening when they were thumped 4-0 by Los Angeles FC. Worse still, Wayne Rooney was dismissed for an awful tackle and they will be without him for the next few matches. Prior to that though, they had three very solid looking victories and a draw from their first four outings.

I’ve gone on record as saying that DC United are my idea of the champions this season and while I wouldn’t write them off after one disappointing night. I do want to see a reaction from them here. I will be interested to see how they go as it would be a massive confidence boost if they can win this one without Wayne Rooney.

Montreal Impact

After two good road wins in their first three matches, there was plenty of optimism surrounding the Montreal Impact and while they have not had the outcomes they wanted in the last two, they still occupy a postseason berth this early in the campaign. The Canadians have been on the road throughout the season so far so they will be delighted to get home after this game.

The obvious bad result for the Impact was their 7-1 humbling at the hands of Sporting Kansas City which somewhat derailed them. Inevitably they tightened right up at the back when they went to New York City on Saturday and came away with a credible draw. A positive result here would set them up nicely for the plethora of home matches they have to come.

Team News

DC United will be without the suspended Wayne Rooney while Oniel Fisher and Joseph Mora are both out with the injuries they sustained in action recently. Quincy Amarikwa will be the man to deputise for Rooney.

Montreal Impact are also without their talisman for this match with Ignacio Piatti confirmed as out with a knee injury. They are also missing their forward Maxi Urruti after he was dismissed at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

Betting

I’m not sure whether DC United are as big as 10/11 for this match because Wayne Rooney is out or because they took a right good beating on Saturday, but if it is the latter we shouldn’t be too concerned because Los Angeles FC look a crack hot unit, far superior to this Montreal Impact one. Rooney’s absence is a concern there is no doubt about that.

It is however levelled out somewhat by Montreal missing Ignacio Piatti and I would argue that he is more important to the Impact than Rooney is to DC United as the home side here still have Luciano Acosta and Lucas Rodriguez. Piatti leaves a massive hole in the visiting side so I’m happy to snap up that 10/11 on a DC win here.
