MLS 2019 – Saturday 11th May Matches Betting Preview

It is another busy night of action in Major League Soccer on Saturday evening with no fewer than nine matches taking place up and down America and Canada as we head towards the mid-season break in the competition.

Of the nine games on show two of them are on TV for those of us in the UK and as always the rest of them are shown on the many streaming options available for this division so there is no reason not to enjoy another good night of action.

Big Matches

The two televised matches are cross-Conference games which should be entertaining. The first of them sees LA Galaxy hosting New York City FC which means we have Zlatan Ibrahimovic back on our screens while the second live game is the one later in the night between Chicago Fire and Minnesota United, a contest which should be end to end if recent matches involving either side are anything to go by.

Best of the Rest

It might be that the TV have missed a trick because there are a couple of big clashes in terms of both league tables over the course of the night. In the Eastern Conference the leaders Philadelphia Union head to one of the better teams in the division in Toronto FC while earlier in the night Montreal Impact will move to the top of the East for a few hours at least if they can avoid defeat at FC Cincinnati. In the Western Conference it is fourth against third as the Seattle Sounders host the Houston Dynamo while leaders of the West LAFC will look to extend their advantage when they make the trip to Columbus Crew. New England Revolution begin life without Brad Friedel when they host the San Jose Earthquakes while two play-off sides from last season meet as FC Dallas host the New York Red Bulls.

Betting

I like a couple of bets over the course of the evening here. The first one comes in New England where the Revolution might have disposed of Brad Friedel’s services but I’m not convinced a tune is suddenly going to come out of this side. They need much better leadership from up above in order to be competitive and until that happens I expect them to struggle. With that in mind, it makes sense to back San Jose Earthquakes to get something from their match at Gillette Stadium. San Jose are in decent touch at the present time and are four matches unbeaten heading into this game. A change in formation has brought about the desired effect for them and they are too big on the Asian lines. New England just shipped five in Chicago and that could have been double that if Chicago were any good. Earthquakes for me.

Chicago Fire should be buzzing after the comprehensiveness of that win over New England in midweek and you would think that will give them all the encouragement they need to get on the front foot and look to attack Minnesota United. The Loons are certainly there to be attacked but they are not shy in going forward themselves, especially on the road where they have a very effective counter attack. We’ve seen throughout much of the campaign that Minnesota matches are end-to-end and high scoring and I’m not seeing an obvious reason why this won’t be the same. I’ll take over 2.75 goals here.
