MLS 2019 – Saturday 17th August Matches Tips and Betting Preview

All but one of the latest round of matches in the MLS take place on a busy Saturday night in the American competition, as places in the top seven with the end of the regular season rapidly closing in, being extremely sought after.

A whole bunch of these matches are on TV in the UK and then there are streams for those which aren’t, although it has to be said that a number of them overlap each other which is slightly disappointing it must be said.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)

New York Red Bulls v New England Revolution (00.00)

Columbus Crew SC v Toronto FC (00.30)

FC Cincinnati v New York City FC (00.30)

Big Matches

In terms of the two main channels in this UK which cover this league we have four matches on TV with Montreal Impact going up against FC Dallas the first of them as we get the chance to see Bojan in action. Chicago Fire’s match against Philadelphia Union is a big one in the Eastern Conference. Vancouver Whitecaps take on DC United in another of the TV matches, which offers one of the few chances left to see Wayne Rooney in this league while the other match in front of the cameras is a huge one in the Western Conference as LA Galaxy takes on Seattle Sounders in a real powerhouse battle.

Best of the Rest

There are two other matches in the more obscure subscription channels and they see the New York Red Bulls taking on the New England Revolution in a big game in the East while Houston Dynamo host Colorado Rapids in a less important match in the Western Conference. The other matches of note on Saturday evening are the ones between Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles FC as well as the battle between Minnesota United and Orlando City, two sides chasing top seven spots.

Betting

I’ll go with two bets on the night with the first of them on New York City FC to win at FC Cincinnati. NYCFC have slowed down on the road from earlier in the season but they won’t need telling that they need to be beating Cincinnati and that this is a golden chance to preserve their top seven spot and push for home matches in the postseason. Cincinnati are freewheeling now but there have been no signs that the freedom they can have to express themselves have made them any better. NYC should be good things here.

Generally when Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles FC meet there are goals and with both sides in excellent form going into their match on Saturday night, and full of confidence, I expect that trend to continue. LAFC are the highest scorers in MLS by some 17 goals even though they have played two matches fewer than their nearest rivals. RSL aren’t shabby when it comes to scoring goals themselves. These two combined for five in a pulsating postseason meeting last season while this fixture in the regular season last term ended 5-1 to the visitors. A 3 goal line looks high but it actually might not be high enough.
