Big Matches

The TV match for those of us in the UK is the one from Miami where Orlando City host a New York City FC who will be looking to showcase their credentials without David Villa. The beaten finalists of last season face a Western Conference clash with the Colorado Rapids as Portland Timbers look to go one step further than they managed last season. FC Cincinnati’s opening match in the MLS sees them head to CenturyLink Field for a clash with the Seattle Sounders.

Best of the Rest

The first match of the season comes from Philly as the Philadelphia Union takes on former champions Toronto FC who could still be reeling from their NACL exit in the week. LA Galaxy will begin their season against Chicago Fire in a match where two teams looking for better efforts than last season meet. The Supporters’ Shield winners New York Red Bulls are on the road for their opener. They go to Columbus Crew while dark horses for the title Minnesota United head to Canada to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps. Houston Dynamo meet Real Salt Lake in another all-Western Conference battle.

Betting

There are three sides I want to take on early this season – Toronto FC, New York City FC and Vancouver Whitecaps. Toronto have a Philadelphia side who I’m a little unsure about so I’ll leave them be but I’m happy to take on the other two sides.

As it happens I’ve backed Orlando City and Minnesota United as dark horses in the outright markets and with huge question marks over their opponents I think both teams can get off to winning starts and offer plenty of attraction on the Asian lines where the required draw cover at this stage of the season is available. New York and Vancouver have both lost their talismanic strikers in the close season and Orlando and Minny can take advantage of that fact.
