After the big occasion of the MLS all-star game in midweek, the regular competition gets back to normal on Saturday night with a bumper load of fixtures on what could be an important evening in the race for the play-offs.

Big Matches

The TV matches begin right off the bat as the current champions Atlanta United take on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his LA Galaxy side who will be looking to usurp the five stripes as winners of the MLS Cup. The action them moves into Florida for the match between Orlando City and FC Dallas before the Western Conference tends to take on the hosting duties. Colorado Rapids plays Montreal Impact in one of them matches while the last two of the night – Real Salt Lake against New York City FC and San Jose Earthquakes versus Columbus Crew – are also on the box.

Best of the Rest

One match which could and maybe should have been chosen for television coverage sees arguably the two form teams in MLS meet as the New England Revolution host Los Angeles FC. This will be a test of the credentials of both teams. Elsewhere there should be plenty of entertainment on show when New York Red Bulls host Toronto FC and when Houston Dynamo take on the Chicago Fire. Two of the poorer sides meet in the other match when FC Cincinnati go up against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Betting

I like a couple of bets over the course of the night. The first one comes in Houston where the Houston Dynamo go up against the Chicago Fire in a match which should have plenty of goal action. Both teams really need to win the contest to get any postseason hopes they may have back on track. Houston are probably better placed to get back in the top seven of their Conference but they won’t be if they don’t start winning soon. Draws are no use to the Chicago Fire either so both teams should be going hell for leather at this one which can see over 2.75 goals land. These teams are not adverse to being involved in high scoring matches and this can be another one.

Later in the evening I like the San Jose Earthquakes when they host the Columbus Crew. To be fair to the Crew they have won their last two matches and while they are getting to grips with things after a disappointing campaign, they go up against an opposition absolutely buzzing here and who have won six of their last seven matches including their last four at home. They have only conceded one goal in those four matches and look threatening at the other end. The Quakes are only being asked to cover a goal on the Asian lines and by virtue of the fact I expect them to win the match it is almost a free bet on them to fully cover.
