Big Matches

The first of the three televised matches comes in the Eastern Conference where the New York Red Bulls host a DC United side who currently occupy the final home play-off spot but know they will surrender that position if they lose this match. Once they are done the attention switches to the Western Conference where the top two meet in one of the two TV matches. That sees Minnesota United hosting the Supporters’ Sheild winners Los Angeles FC while the other televised offering sees LA Galaxy looking to sew up a home match in the first round of the play-offs when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Best of the Rest

New England Revolution enter the penultimate night knowing if they match the Chicago Fire result they will be into the play-offs. The Revs host the Eastern Conference leaders New York City FC while Chicago Fire host Toronto FC. It is three from four for the last spots in the Western Conference play-offs. San Jose Earthquakes are the two outside the top seven and they host Seattle Sounders. Two of he other three contenders are on the road. Portland Timbers face Sporting Kansas City, FC Dallas head to Colorado Rapids. The other team are Real Salt Lake and they host the Houston Dynamo.

Betting

We’re at the stage of the season where it is hard to find genuine betting opportunities in this league and even though there are 12 matches there is only one bet I like although I must admit I was tempted with one or two overs but there is the potential for this to be a bit of a tight night so in the end I didn’t think that was the right play.

The bet I like is for Real Salt Lake to cover a goal against Houston Dynamo. Real Salt Lake are one of the best home sides in the MLS and given that they need to win to make it into the postseason there won’t be no easing up from them. Not only would a win get them into the top seven by right but they would have a shot at a home tie in the first round next week. Houston Dynamo have lost 14 of their 16 away games in MLS this season and I expect them to lose this one too.
