MLS 2019 – Thursday 18th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The second of five successive nights of action in the Major League Soccer card this week takes place on Thursday with two more matches being played out across the country, with a couple of sides in real need of a win in action.

Both the matches are live on Free Sports for those of us who are in the UK and they follow each other so there is no reason not to catch the action if you are a night owl. If you prefer sleep you could be struggling!

FC Cincinnati vs DC United (01.00)

The first match of the night is an all-Eastern Conference clash which sees FC Cincinnati going up against DC United in what is a huge match for the visitors. They’ve hit an inconsistent patch but have an ideal chance to get back to form and if they do win here they will go back up to second in the table.

Cincinnati have actually found a bit of form in their last couple of matches so DC United might be getting them at a bad time. The home side can play with freedom because their play-off hopes have been long gone for a while whereas DC United will know they are not the same side on the road. I’ve absolutely no betting interest in this match I have to say.

Portland Timbers vs Orlando City (03.00)

The second match of the night is a massive one for the beaten finalists of last season Portland Timbers. They are not yet in the play-off places in the Western Conference but they have matches in hand and a bunch of home games to push for a spot there. If they are to get there they need to beat Orlando City.

Orlando are not yet in the top seven in the Eastern Conference either but a win here would move them onto the very edge of it so this is a pretty big game for both sides, although you would suggest the hopes of Portland are more realistic whereas at some point Orlando might target the US Open Cup now they are into the semi-finals.

I can’t see past Portland here I have to say. I accept their schedule has been hectic but they are very good at home and while Orlando aren’t the worst away they are nothing special. Orlando have a big game against the Red Bulls at the weekend so I wouldn’t be surprised if they save themselves for that so I’ll take the Timbers to cover a goal start.
