Preview

It is mostly a night where the Western Conference is in the spotlight, with some big sides looking to enhance their play-off credentials. With that in mind, the biggest match of the evening could well be the one between LA Galaxy and FC Dallas, who both sit inside the top seven, but whose places there are anything but secure. The three points there would be huge for whoever picks them up. One of the reasons for that is because teams like the Portland Timbers are beginning to surge and they will look to continue that when they host the Chicago Fire.

Earlier in the night both Orlando City and Sporting Kansas City will be keen for the points when they battle it out in Florida while Minnesota United will be looking to put their high scoring loss in Dallas at the weekend behind them when they host the Colorado Rapids while in the other match Real Salt Lake goes up against the Seattle Sounders who moved into second at the weekend and who will be looking to push on now.

Betting

Midweek rounds in MLS are getting notoriously hard to bet on and this one is certainly no different to that. On the face of it you would expect a number of home wins but a couple of away sides have plenty to play for, so this could be the midweek that a few trends change. There is one home side I’m pretty confident in though and I’ll get on them as a result.

That is Portland Timbers, who I expect to be too good for a Chicago Fire side who are so much better on their own patch than they are on the road. Providence Park is never an easy place to go so how much Chicago will put into this game remains to be seen, given that they have another match at the weekend. Portland have no choice but to go strong for this one. Not only is it a home game for them but also with two teams within three points of them playing each other, they could move into the top seven for the first time this campaign with a win. The Timbers have scored seven and conceded just one in their last two at home. Those numbers can continue here.
