MLS 2020 – Nashville SC vs Minnesota United Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The midweek Major League Soccer action gets underway on Tuesday evening when two sides collide in the first of what is a full card in the MLS as the season heads closer towards the postseason in both Conferences.

Both Conferences will be represented on Tuesday evening as Nashville SC host Minnesota United with both sides currently in their respective play-off zones but could do with a win to improve their positions within them.

Where to watch

The match is not available on TV for those of us who are in the UK. It will be shown on the relevant betting streams though. The match is due to kick off at 1.30am.

Nashville SC

Given all that have gone on, it is to the credit of Nashville SC that they are in a position that they can progress to the postseason in what is still their debut season. They go into this match in good form in the main with just one defeat in their last eight matches, which came away to Columbus Crew which is no disaster. That has seen them move from the foot of the table nearer the middle of it and a win here could send them up to seventh if it is by a sizeable margin.

Although they are in good form there is a clear handicap for the hosts here as they have only scored 11 goals in 14 regular season matches and that is not a formula that is going to bring long-term success. On the plus side though they have only conceded 14 goals in that time so if they can find a strategy and formation that allows them to threaten to score more regularly, their defensive record suggests they will be capable of many more matches.

Minnesota United

Minnesota United go into this match sat in fourth place in the Western Conference table but a win here will move them up to second ahead of the remainder of the midweek matches. With a 6-4-5 record it is clear that consistency has been an issue for Adrian Heath’s charges. When they have been good they have been very good but when they haven’t been at the races they have been found out. In a pretty tightly bunched Western Conference table they need to find some consistency to guarantee a decent position in the postseason.

The big concern for Minnesota United here is that they haven’t won on the road since lockdown and that is something that is likely to have to change if they are going to have a deep run in the play-offs should they get there. Talent and personnel isn’t an issue so I’m guessing they are taking a while to adjust to the differences of travelling and playing on the same day. It will be interesting to see if they are improved here or still struggling.

Betting

When you consider that Nashville SC haven’t lost at home as an MLS franchise and that Minnesota United haven’t won away since the league restarted at the MLS is Back tournament, you’ve got to think that with plenty of draw cover Nashville SC are the bet here. There is a bit of a concern that they don’t score many goals but they don’t concede that many either so it might be that one is enough to get something from this match.

Minnesota will also have to deal with an extensive injury list in this match as well which is clearly less than ideal. To be fair to them Nashville are missing some players as well but their absences don’t seem to have hurt them nearly as much as the Minnesota ones have them. With the required draw cover at this part of the season and form very much on their side I like the idea of backing the home side in this one.
