The MLS Cup Play-offs continue on Sunday night when the focus moves to the Western Conference for the first time in this postseason as three of the four first round matches in that competition get played out on another tasty looking night of football.
With the matches coming from the West they are later starts than we have had so far but for the night owls all three matches are live on the TV and they are available to be watched via the streaming consoles with the bookmakers.
Where to watch
There is a choice of channel to watch these matches on over the course of Sunday night. Sky subscribers can watch them on the Sky Sports Football channels but those without Sky can watch them on Free Sports. All three matches are also available at the bookmakers streaming services.
Sporting Kansas City vs San Jose Earthquakes (21.00)
The action begins at the home of the Western Conference top seeds Sporting Kansas City when they play host to a San Jose Earthquakes side who are among the most entertaining to watch in the entire Major League Soccer competition these days.
Sporting Kansas City are one of the form teams going into this play-off campaign with six wins from their last eight matches so they will be confident they can get the job done here but San Jose have bags of goals in them so it might not be the easy ride that Kansas City will have wanted. Both regular season matches between these two were won by the home side but there were goals in both and I would be surprised if this one doesn’t have a few goals in it. The goal line is 3 though which is a touch on the high side to back and Kansas City are a little short too so I’ll leave this one alone.

Minnesota United vs Colorado Rapids (00.30)
The second match of the night has the potential to be very entertaining as well as Minnesota United, very much dark horses for the title here, host the Colorado Rapids who are almost free rolling having not made the postseason since 2016.
That in itself makes this a big night for the Rapids and it will be interesting to see how they cope with that. It will also be interesting to see how they handle former striker Kei Kamara who has the potential to be the spoiler to their chances in this hard-working Minnesota unit. I like Minnesota as dark horses here but I always respect a team who have a bit of a free rolling element to them. If the price stood out I would back Minnesota but it doesn’t really so I’m happy to leave this one alone as well.
Portland Timbers vs FC Dallas (03.00)
The final match of the night sees the MLS is Back Tournament winners Portland Timbers beginning their quest for what would be an outrageous double in a year that has been completely different to any other. Standing in their way of a place in the Conference semi-final is FC Dallas.
Portland should be confident of coming through this match for a couple of reasons. The first one is that they won that MLS is Back event which was knockout football from the last 16 onwards much like this one is. There is no substitute for winning knockout matches. They have also been to the MLS Cup final twice in the last five seasons, winning once and losing to Atlanta United in 2018. FC Dallas are a competent side but as I said when they played at Minnesota in the last regular season game they are nothing like as convincing on the road as they are at home and while this is slightly different as it is knockout football I find it hard to believe a team as limited as Dallas on their travels will go to Portland a win. I’m happy to be on the home side here.
