Big Matches

The three matches live on TV for those of us who are in the UK all come later into the evening. The first of them comes in the form of the match between the San Jose Earthquakes and the beaten finalists of last season in Toronto FC. After that we get to see the first of the new boys in action as Nashville SC entertain the former champions Atlanta United in their opening MLS contest before the focus switches to Canada for the Western Conference clash between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Sporting Kansas City

Best of the Rest

The season actually begins in the capital when DC United start MLS life without Wayne Rooney when they go up against the Colorado Rapids. Champions League quarter finalist Montreal Impact take on New England Revolution in what will be Thierry Henry’s first MLS game in charge while there is an entertaining Western Conference clash on the cards as Houston Dynamo host Los Angeles Galaxy. The other two matches sees two play-off teams from last season meeting when FC Dallas host Philadelphia Union, while Orlando City take on Real Salt Lake.

Betting

I’ll go with two on the opening night of the season. The first of those comes in Montreal when I think Montreal Impact could be vulnerable to the New England Revolution. The Revs are outsiders here to the point we can get them on a +0.25AH line, which means that we will make our first piece of profit for the campaign should they avoid defeat and if they win it would be the full amount too. I have watched both of Montreal Impact’s Champions League outings under Thierry Henry so far and I can’t say I’ve been impressed on either occasion. They look far too toothless up front without the departed Ignacio Piatti for my liking. Revolution naturally improved under Bruce Arena last term and I expect them to kick on again this season with the appealing additions of Gustavo Bou and Adam Buksa to pep up an attack that was nowhere near good enough last term. The rest of their unit looked in good order and for me they are the better of the two teams and will have a better season. I’ll back them to avoid defeat here.

The other bet I like on the night is over 3 goals when the Houston Dynamo take on the Los Angeles Galaxy. To be fair this fixture just screams goals at me. I mentioned in my outright preview that I expect Houston to be more clinical with Darwin Quintero in their ranks now while Galaxy look an offensive side too with Javier Hernandez their star recruit alongside the likes of Cristian Pavon, Alexander Katai and Sascha Kljestan. To me at least it looks like both back lines could be a work in progress so I expect this to be an opening day game both have a good go in. That should see goals flow naturally between very offensive dominated teams.
