Big Matches

The televised action begins quite early on Saturday evening with the clash between Real Salt Lake and the New York Red Bulls before the focus turns to the Eastern Conference as DC United host the new boys Inter Miami. Toronto FC and New York City FC were among the best teams in the Western Conference last season and their clash is live in the UK while Atlanta United begin life without Josef Martinez in front of the UK cameras too. They face FC Cincinnati and then the final televised game sees the champions Seattle Sounders taking on Columbus Crew.

Best of the Rest

There are three Western Conference clashes that look interesting. San Jose Earthquakes and Minnesota United meet in one of them while Sporting Kansas City and Houston Dynamo oppose each other in another. The last of them sees LA Galaxy taking on Vancouver Whitecaps. Earlier in the day the New England Revolution will go up against the Chicago Fire with both teams looking for their first point of the campaign. The other two matches sees FC Dallas host Montreal Impact and Colorado Rapids taking on Orlando City.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the night on Saturday and the first comes in the season opener at Mercedes-Benz Stadium where Atlanta United will look to adjust to a lengthy spell without leading marksman Josef Martinez when they take on FC Cincinnati. There is no doubt that the injury to the Venezuela international is a major blow for the five stripes, and they might well need a couple of weeks to adjust to it so I like FC Cincinnati on the handicap here, as Atlanta could struggle to score. You also have to factor into the equation that Atlanta have a huge Champions League clash to come in midweek and that is a competition they haven’t won before so will be targeting. FC Cincinnati aren’t the best side in the world but they scored twice on the road at the Red Bulls last week and one here could see some sort of return on a +1.25 Asian line given the hosts are missing their main man.

The other side I like on Saturday evening are the Colorado Rapids, a team who looked pretty good in defeating DC United last weekend and who will be looking to build on that in front of their own fans for the first time this term. They have the perfect opponent to do it against too in Orlando City. A lot has changed at Orlando City since last season but one thing that didn’t appear to in their season opener was that they offer signs of life until they get to the final third where their output was terrible. They’ll need to show some sort of clinical edge to get anything here because the Rapids look to have kicked on from last term. I expect a home win here.
