MLS 2020 – Seattle Sounders vs Los Angeles FC Tips and Betting Preview

The Major League Soccer weekend kicks off on Friday night and it does so with a potential cracker as two of the best sides in the Western Conference meet when the Seattle Sounders welcome Los Angeles FC to CenturyLink Field.

The Sounders have the incentive of knowing that they will go top of the table should they win while LAFC will move into third. This is the MLS champions against the Supporters’ Shield holders so it should be a good one.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live on Free Sports in the UK. The coverage begins at 3.05am and the match begins soon after that. It will also be available to be watched on all of the bookmaker streaming services.

Seattle Sounders

We are so used to the Seattle Sounders enjoying themselves at this time of the season and there are signs that it is happening again. They have won three of their last five matches and picked up a draw in one of the other two so the champions look to be hitting top form again. This is a side who have always had goals in them and that remains the case here. Earlier in the season they looked very light and loose in defence. If they tighten up in that area they could well defend their MLS title.

The Sounders go into this match off the back of an emphatic 7-1 win last time out, a victory which saw them take advantage of an ordinary San Jose Earthquakes defence. That match was just over a week ago so they should be nicely rested going into this one, which nobody from a Sounders perspective is going to complain about given the hectic schedule as we try to catch up with the season after the stoppage.

Los Angeles FC

We have become accustomed to Los Angeles FC being one of the steamroller sides in the regular season part of the MLS campaign but they haven’t been able to hit overdrive yet this term with all the stoppages and various injuries hurting them more than other sides. Clearly the absence of Carlos Vela is doing them no favours but this is a team who like to get on a run and maintain their form but that just hasn’t been possible so far.

We know that Los Angeles FC have goals in them. That is going to be the case with or without Vela but they lack a defensive cohesion at the minute. That is where they are struggling with a rhythm and an intensity. They have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven matches and if that sort of defensive form continues for much longer then they are not going to be champions come the play-offs.

Betting

It is hard to think that we’re not going to get goals in this match. Seattle Sounders are beginning to score goals for fun but there remains a vulnerability about them defensively and you would have to label the same things to the Los Angeles FC side as well. They are still scoring plenty of goals but they are conceding them just as quickly as well so I’ve got to think that over 3.5 goals is a real runner here, particularly as the two teams are nicely rested.

Four of the last six matches that the Sounders have played would have covered a 3.5 line. Three of the last five LAFC games have done as well but the way these two teams are conceding as well as scoring makes me think we are going to get goals in this one. Four of their last five battles have had four or more goals in them including their meeting a couple of weeks ago. I expect this one to have four or more as well.
