After a competitive night of MLS action on Saturday, the majority of the weekend action in Major League Soccer comes along on Sunday night when seven matches take place across America as the end of the regular season gets ever closer.

Big Matches

We have two all-Eastern Conference matches and two all-Western Conference clashes on the TV on this side of the pond with that action beginning in the Big Apple when New York City FC host New England Revolution before we move to the Western Conference for the clash between the two current trophy holders as Los Angeles FC host the Seattle Sounders. It is then back to the East for what could be a tight tussle between FC Cincinnati and Toronto FC before the TV action concludes at Providence Park where the Portland Timbers take on the San Jose Earthquakes.

Best of the Rest

There are three other matches on show on Sunday evening with Chicago Fire looking for a win on home soil when they host a DC United side who finally dispersed of Ben Olsen during the week. Philadelphia Union will be looking to maintain their own impressive home form when they go up against the Montreal Impact while over in the Western Conference Sporting Kansas City will be eyeing up three points against a Nashville SC who are beginning to find their feet at MLS level after a tough start to their debut season.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of the night with the first one being the Philadelphia Union who will be looking for a seventh straight home win when they host the Montreal Impact. To be fair to the Impact they had an excellent win away to the Columbus Crew last time out and that performance and result is of a high quality but we’ve seen them struggle for consistency all season and that has to be an issue here. Philadelphia aren’t just winning at home, they are not conceding many either. In the five home games they’ve played since lockdown they have only conceded two goals whereas the Impact are quite leaky on their travels. I’m expecting a comfortable home win here.

The second bet I like is for there to be more than 3.25 goals in the match between the Portland Timbers and the San Jose Earthquakes. I was worried about whether Portland would still have it in them to score goals after Sebastian Blanco was ruled out for the season but in two of their last four matches they have scored six goals on their own. One of those was against the San Jose Earthquakes so we know that the Timbers could cover this on their own if they are on a going day. San Jose have won three on the bounce since that mauling though so they’ll be going into this match with a little bit of confidence themselves and there is definitely goals in them so this Western Conference clash should be full of goals.
