Big Matches

There is a televised match from each Conference on Sunday evening. It begins in the Eastern Conference where the former leaders Columbus Crew will attempt to get their form back on track when they take on New York City FC before the attention moves to the Western Conference for the high profile clash between the former champions Portland Timbers and the current Supporters’ Shield holders Los Angeles FC with the Timbers able to go top of the table for a few minutes if they can find the win.

Best of the Rest

The favourites for the Supporters’ Shield this season are Toronto FC and they can take a step closer to winning that title when they host Atlanta United. New York Red Bulls and Orlando City meet in what should be an entertaining match while much later in the night the champions Seattle Sounders head to the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy look to get their season back on track when they host a Vancouver Whitecaps who should be there for the taking if the Galaxy are good enough to do it. The other match sees Minnesota United going up against Houston Dynamo.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the evening which comes in the form of the Eastern Conference leaders Toronto FC who can see off Atlanta United. It isn’t ideal for the Canadian outfit that they are not able to play at their regular home BMO Field because of the travel restrictions but they haven’t let it bother them too much and they go into this game in fine form and in position to build on that with a couple of the best players in the league this season in their ranks.

I’ve highlighted the struggles that Atlanta United are having this season and they are going to continue until the time when Josef Martinez comes back, and that is assuming that he returns in the same standard he was when he picked up his injury. That isn’t going to be any time soon though and with Alejandro Pozuelo and Pablo Piatti in great touch at the minute I expect this to be a long night for the 2018 champions.
