MLS 2020 – Sunday 8th March Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There are two matches remaining in the second set of games in the new Major League Soccer season, and they both take place on Sunday night where two Western Conference sides host inferior looking teams to round off the weekend.

Usually we have to do with the streams for a lot of the Sunday matches but that is not the case this weekend as both games are live on Free Sports for those of us who are in the UK. If that option is not available the bookie streams will cover both matches.

Portland Timbers vs Nashville SC (23.00)

The first match of the two on the evening comes from Providence Park where two sides go in search of their first points of the campaign as the Portland Timbers take on the new boys of Nashville SC in an interesting looking match up.

Heading into the campaign the general consensus was that the Timbers would be an offensive machine and Nashville would base their strength around their defensive play. That was how it looked last week so it will be interesting to see which style comes out on top. If Nashville can keep things tight their pace could cause a weak Portland defence problems but it is probably still a little too early into their tenure as an MLS club to be betting with any confidence on their matches.

Los Angeles FC vs Philadelphia Union (02.30)

The second match of the night sees the Supporters’ Shield owners Los Angeles FC going up against one of the better sides in the Eastern Conference last term in Philadelphia Union in a contest both will be eyeing something up from.

Los Angeles FC began their defence of the Shield with a win last week but you would have to say it wasn’t the most convincing match of all time. They can be cut a little bit of slack though as they were involved in a Champions League game three days prior to that match. Philadelphia Union had no such excuses in their 2-0 loss at FC Dallas and we saw on Saturday evening that wasn’t necessarily the best result ever.

If Philadelphia are offering little by way of competitiveness against FC Dallas you do wonder what they will have to offer against a much superior Los Angeles FC team. We didn’t see the best of the Supporters’ Shield winners last week but I expect to see much more from them here and I would expect them to cover a 1.25 Asian line in a convincing home win.
