The midweek round of matches in the MLS gets underway on Tuesday night when the one Canadian clash of the set of fixtures takes place as Toronto FC look to surge clear at the top of the Eastern Conference when they host Montreal Impact.

These two sides will be no strangers to each other having met in the MLS is Back tournament and also again on Friday night. Toronto FC won both of those matches so that might have fuelled the fire for Montreal Impact.

Toronto FC

This has been an excellent start to the season for Toronto FC. The only way it could have got better really was if they had gone on and won the MLS is Back tournament. They didn’t do that as they produced a bit of a flat display at the wrong time against New York City FC in the knockout stages. That aside though they have looked very good and welcome the Impact still undefeated for their regular season campaign.

BMO Field has often been a fortress for Toronto FC and that has been the case this season. Either side of lockdown they have played three matches on their home ground and they have won the lot and done it without conceding a single goal. They are looking strong defensively since they came away from the MLS is Back event and there is so much creativity and options in attacking areas that they are going to be tough to stop from here.

Montreal Impact

It seems that Montreal Impact just find it impossible to find any consistency in this competition whatsoever. That hasn’t just been the case this season, they have been like it for a while, and although chopping and changing managers and bringing in coaches with different styles to the previous ones haven’t helped, it seems whatever they try they just can’t find a consistency in their performance let alone their results.

Despite that, they go into this match in a relatively good position in the table having picked up three wins from their seven matches. What they can’t afford is a run of games without a win, so having lost to Toronto on their home patch last time out, they could do with finding something from this one. There are goals in this Montreal side but they do look exposed defensively and that is a real concern here it must be said.

Betting

I’m with Toronto FC here. They are beginning to look a really top notch outfit to me at the minute and I just don’t like what I’m seeing from the Montreal Impact. It might be that they are better suited to playing on the road and utilising the pace that they have in forward areas but ultimately I’m just not convinced they are good enough to get the job done against a pretty decent Toronto defence which is well screened by Michael Bradley.

Toronto are on a roll and although these matches are coming thick and fast it isn’t like they have to use the same XI. In fact, there is every chance one of Akinola or Altidore comes back for this game so they might be even stronger personnel wise than they were on Friday night. Whoever leads the line for Toronto though they are going to get plenty of chances with the creative spark of Pozuela and Piatti and I’ll back to take enough of those opportunities to cover a 1.25 Asian handicap.
