Big Matches

The televised action is split between the two Conferences with it starting in the Eastern Conference with two sides deep in the play-off spots in that section meeting when Orlando City host New York City FC with seedings in the postseason being the primary interest. In the other Eastern match on TV in the UK we have two sides battling hard to get into the play-off places when Inter Miami host Atlanta United in a match neither can afford to lose. The interest then heads to the Western Conference where the form horses Portland Timbers look to continue their winning run when they head to Real Salt Lake while Vancouver Whitecaps meet Los Angeles FC in the other game.

Best of the Rest

There are plenty of other good games on show on Wednesday evening. The new Eastern Conference leaders Toronto FC take on an improving New York Red Bulls while Philadelphia Union in second place head to strugglers DC United. Columbus Crew will look to end their slump in form when they battle it out with the other Ohio based side in FC Cincinnati. Over in the Western Conference, Sporting Kansas City will look to move above the leaders Seattle Sounders when they make the trip to take on FC Dallas while Los Angeles FC will know their match against the Vancouver Whitecaps is one they can ill afford to lose. There is also the latest instalment of the ‘CaliClasico’ as LA Galaxy host the San Jose Earthquakes.

Betting

I’ll go with a couple of bets over the course of Wednesday evening with the first of them coming in the form of Inter Miami who will be looking for all three points when they take on an Atlanta United who look to be getting worse. Inter Miami started life in MLS a bit limp but since the reinforcements have arrived during the season they have been getting better and they now have a very good spine and a couple of classy creative players around that. We shouldn’t forget that Atlanta’s troubles have come from the injury to Josef Martinez. The day it happened I feared their season would be a write off and that is how it is playing out. They look like a team who are lacking some true quality at the top end of the pitch and that is putting pressure on them defensively. Miami have won the last two meetings between these two and at 5/6 look fair value to complete a hat-trick.

Minnesota United sit fourth in the Western Conference going into their match with Chicago Fire but that record is probably distorted because they have only played five home matches which is an incredibly low amount. Of those five they have three wins and a draw and given that they look to have worked it out defensively I’m expecting them to see off a Chicago Fire side who I mentioned last week are struggling on their travels. I highlighted it when they lost to Sporting Kansas City and I think it carries relevance because some teams are certainly struggling with flying in on game day and playing a few hours later, something very different to what they would normally do. I’m expecting a Minnesota win here.
