MLS 2021 – Friday 3rd September Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

It might be the international break this weekend but the Major League Soccer season doesn’t pause so we have another round of MLS 2021 matches to look forward to. They get underway on Friday evening where there are four fixtures taking place.

Three of the four matches will take place in front of cameras which are being shown in the UK so we should be able to keep up with all the action, especially as the other one will be available on the bookmaker streaming services.

Friday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)

Nashville SC v New York City FC (00.30 – Sky Main Event & Sky Football)

Philadelphia Union v New England Revolution (00.30)

Houston Dynamo FC v Portland Timbers (01.00 – Free Sports)

Los Angeles Football Club v Sporting Kansas City (03.00 – Free Sports)

Preview

We have two matches from the Eastern Conference and two from the Western Conference on Friday evening. The two from the East are the first two to kick off and they see four of the top five in the table meeting. Nashville SC and New York City FC have both been in good form recently and they meet in the opening game before the Supporters’ Shield holders Philadelphia Union take away the runaway leaders of the Conference in New England Revolution, the team who are likely to take the Shield off the Union this term.

The two matches in the Western Conference carry plenty of importance as well with top spot up for grabs for Sporting Kansas City when they make the journey to the Banc of California Stadium to take on a Los Angeles FC whose form looks to be deserting them at the wrong time. A win there will take Kansas City top. In the other match, bottom of the pile Houston Dynamo host the Portland Timbers in a match where a road win for the Timbers would make their top seven chances look a whole lot better.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet on Friday evening and it comes in that opening match in the Western Conference on the night as the Houston Dynamo host the Portland Timbers. I’m very surprised the Timbers are such emphatic outsiders in this match and there are a few reasons for that. They have just knocked off the Seattle Sounders in rivalry week and that is a huge result for the Timbers, who admittedly aren’t the best travellers in the competition.

Houston Dynamo are in a right mess though. They have failed to win any of their last 15 matches so they look massively undeserved favourites anyway but then you have to add on top that they are missing a boatload of players who are on international duty. Six players are on international duty from the Dynamo so they are going to have to mix and match against a talented side who have already picked up four points from Houston in their two matches this season and who are unbeaten in the last five meetings with the Texan outfit. I think the Timbers on the Asian lines is the best bet of the evening.
