MLS 2021 – Sunday 9th May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest weekend in Major League Soccer concludes on Sunday night when another three matches take place on what should be a good triple header of action with both Conferences under the spotlight throughout the evening.

The three matches that take place are all live on TV in the UK and they are all at relatively watchable times so what better way to end the weekend that to sit back and watch three back to back MLS matches!?

Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)

Inter Miami vs Atlanta United (18.00 – Sky Football)

Portland Timbers vs Seattle Sounders (20.00 – Free Sports)

Sporting Kansas City vs Austin FC (00.30 – Free Sports)

Preview

The action begins with the final match of the weekend from the Eastern Conference as Inter Miami go up against an Atlanta United whose fall from grace has been steep and swift and after their exit in the Champions League in midweek you wonder where they are going as a club. Phil Neville will go in search of a first home win in charge of Miami here and if they can win this match it would put a dent in a potential postseason rival even this early in the campaign.

We them move to the Western Conference for the remaining two matches when the Portland Timbers host their Cascadia Cup rivals Seattle Sounders with the home side looking to get their season fired into life and the visitors aiming to reach the top of the table once again. The action then ends with Sporting Kansas City taking on the new boys Austin FC in an interesting match in light of Austin having won their last two matches.

Betting

The Portland Timbers have been resting key players for their MLS campaign so far to have everyone as fit and fresh as possible for their Champions League tilt but now that is over I expect them to commit to a strong showing domestically. We can pretty much write off their opening three matches as a result of that and really just suggest their campaign begins here even though they are still without a couple of players due to injury.

Seattle Sounders have started the season very strongly, which in itself is a concern for the rest of the league as they are usually slow starters and peak at the business end of the season, but for all their good start to the campaign there has been a fragile look to them defensively even if sides haven’t taken advantage of that. These Cascadia Cup clashes are always tight but fans are back at Prominence Park for this one which is sure to fire up the Timbers. If there is a winner here I think it could well be them.
