MLS 2021 – Vancouver Whitecaps vs Houston Dynamo Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is another round of matches in the Major League Soccer season this midweek and they start on Tuesday evening on what is a big night for the Vancouver Whitecaps when they host the Houston Dynamo in the Western Conference.

That is because this is the first time in more than 16 months that Vancouver will have played on their home ground of BC Field. They have so far been forced to play near enough the whole of last season and all of this one so far in America but they can return home for the first time here.

Where to watch

You have to be something of a night owl to watch this match but if you do fit that description then the match can be watched on the Free Sports channel. The programme begins at 3.05am and the match kicks off soon after. It is also available with the bookmaker streams.

Vancouver Whitecaps

The Vancouver Whitecaps ended a run of eight matches without a win at the weekend when they got the better of LA Galaxy. That was a result which saw them come off the bottom of the Western Conference table and now that they have a genuine home advantage at their disposal they will go in search of a win which will move them up a couple of places and level on points with the team they go up against in this match.

I’m not going to be too critical of the Whitecaps this season. It must be so hard to be away from home for so long and not have the support that every team craves. Those who do want to be critical will point to their defence. They have leaked 23 goals in their 13 matches so far and that isn’t a record which is going to see them go well. The flip side of that is they are averaging a goal per game themselves so if they can tighten up a bit they have the tools to win more matches.

Houston Dynamo

The Houston Dynamo have had a couple of weeks to take check of where they are and what they need to do in order to reset and go again in their bid to make the play-offs. They have been hit with international call ups since their last game so they are going to need to deal with those but they certainly can’t argue with the amount of preparation time they have had. To have 10 days or so at this time in the season is very rare.

That break came at the right time because they went into it without a win in six and a good start to the season has now been wasted. It can come good again if they start winning matches and the positive for them is that they are only one point off the top seven. Much like their opponents here, Houston are beginning to struggle defensively and losing a number of their defensive players isn’t going to help them here. They need to turn their form around at the back as quickly as they can.

Betting

Given that these two sides are struggling defensively I’m a little surprised that we are getting a 2.5 goal line in this match. I’m even more surprised when you consider the reverse meeting between these two teams has already had three goals. Vancouver Whitecaps certainly aren’t going to lack for motivation here. They play at home for the first time in yonks so there will be something of a final feel about this for them which means they will strive to win the game and put on a show.

Both these teams know their way to the back of the net. The last eight Whitecaps matches have had at least three goals in them and Houston are no strangers to an over themselves. Generally when these two teams meet there are goals. The last seven meetings between these two have had three or more goals and when you consider that the Gold Cup is depriving Houston of some key defensive players I’m confident that we’ll get more than 2.5 goals in this one.
