Big Matches

The televised action begins at the Gillette Stadium where the newly crowned Supporters’ Shield winners New England Revolution will host a Colorado Rapids side who could move level on points with the Western Conference leaders Seattle Sounders should they come away with the win in that match. Atlanta United will look to keep the chasing pack at bay when they play host to an Inter Miami side whose feint playoff hopes will officially be over should they lose that game. The last of the TV matches comes from Providence Park where the Portland Timbers will look to snap a losing run when they host the San Jose Earthquakes, who need to win their last three matches and get a lot of luck if they are going to be around for the postseason.

Best of the Rest

The race for the playoffs is very much in the spotlight on Wednesday evening and the pick of the matches comes late in the night when the Vancouver Whitecaps, in eighth place in the Western Conference going into the night, taking on Minnesota United who are sixth but just one place above the Canadian outfit. Sporting Kansas City can join Seattle Sounders on 58 points if they can see off an LA Galaxy side who themselves will be looking over their shoulders if they lose. Over in the Eastern Conference it is a big night for the two New York clubs as they look to strength their playoff hopes. New York City FC sit fifth but they are only a point from eighth. NYC host Chicago Fire in what is a must win match for them. New York Red Bulls in sixth travel to DC United in ninth but just two points separate the teams so that is a huge game. It is a big night for the reigning champion Columbus Crew too. They sit five points adrift of the playoffs with three matches left. The first of those comes here when they host Orlando City SC.

Betting

I picked out a match which had the potential for over 2.5 goals on Tuesday night because of the needs of the two sides involved and there are a couple more to get stuck into on Wednesday evening too. The first of those comes in the match between DC United and New York Red Bulls, a match neither can afford to lose. New York Red Bulls begin the night in the playoff places but defeat here and they are likely to end it outside them with two matches left. DC United are in the opposite position. They are outside the playoffs but a win here will move them above NYRB and potentially into the top seven. This is a match neither can afford to lose so I expect both to have a go here and this has the potential to be one of those crazy late season MLS matches. The over looks a good thing here.

It also looks good in the match between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Minnesota United as well because of the positions of both sides. Vancouver are in eighth going into the night and Minnesota are in sixth but whoever wins this will end the evening above the other one. It might be that if Minnesota lose they will lose their spot in the top seven such is how tight the table is around those playoffs places. A draw isn’t really much use to either of these two sides so I expect both to get the ball forward and have a go here. Goals have been a feature of both of their matches recently, as you would expect with the position they are both in, They played out a 2-2 draw here a couple of months ago and I’m expecting more goals in this one.
