The penultimate full round of matches in the MLS 2022 regular season continues on Saturday when the majority of the games take place on a night where we could see the play-off and Supporters’ Shield pictures come a little closer to completion.

Big Matches

The three televised matches get underway with the focus on the race for the Supporters’ Shield as the Philadelphia Union look to take the lead in it when they make the trip to take on a Charlotte FC side who have to win to keep their hopes of making the play-offs in their debut season alive. The action when heads to Ohio where FC Cincinnati look to secure their play-off spot with a win against Chicago Fire. Minnesota United will look to repel the chasing pack in the Western Conference in the last of the TV matches. They go to a San Jose Earthquakes who have been a poor team for much of the season.

Best of the Rest

Vancouver Whitecaps and Real Salt Lake are the two sides who are looking to reel Minnesota United in and they are in action on Saturday night. The Whitecaps host Austin FC in a good game while Real Salt Lake head to LA Galaxy whose postseason spot isn’t yet confirmed. The action begins in the last chance saloon for Atlanta United who have to beat New England Revolution to keep their play-off hopes alive. CF Montreal aren’t yet dead in the Supporters’ Shield race and they will hope to remain relevant in it when they host DC United while former champions Columbus Crew host New York Red Bulls in a good looking match.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of the night and it comes in the final TV match where the San Jose Earthquakes take on the Minnesota United in a game I expect to contain goals. This is a match Minnesota United will be more than eager to win to take their play-off spot into the final week with everything still in their own hands but given that they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 11 matches you would imagine they will need to score at least twice to do that.

San Jose are playing for little other than the pride of winning their last home match of the season but despite that you get the feeling they will give this a bit of a go. While they aren’t winning many matches they have only failed to find the net in two of their last nine matches but they have only kept one clean sheet in 17. Seven of the last 10 meetings between these two have had four or more goals so this is a fixture which is synonymous with high scoring matches and when you factor in how open they are defensively, over 3 goals looks the bet here.
