MLS 2022 – Saturday 2nd July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Independence weekend of MLS matches begins on Saturday evening when two of the fixtures for the latest round of games take place. With it being a holiday over in the US there are sure to be decent crowds and plenty of attention on the games.

Both matches can be seen on Free Sports in the UK, although you will need to be something of a night owl to get through the second one. If you don’t have access to that channel then both will be available via the bookmaker streams.

Toronto FC vs Seattle Sounders (00.30)

The opening match of the night comes from BMO Field where two teams who have met in three of the last six MLS Cup finals battle it out as Toronto FC go up against the Champions League winners Seattle Sounders.

I think it is fair to say that both clubs are underachieving on expectations this season, although that is only in the MLS case with the Sounders as their Champions League win was very appealing of course. I suspect the expectation at Toronto was elevated when Lorenzo Insigne was signed and we are days away from his debut and what you would imagine will be a natural improvement in them. Each time you feel Seattle are getting it together they suffer a shock defeat like they did in midweek. These two are a little inconsistent for me to bet with confidence although I do suspect we’ll see some goals here.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs Los Angeles FC (03.00)

The second match of the night also comes from across the border as the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the current leaders of the Western Conference in the form of Los Angeles FC, a club who have plenty of attention on them right now.

We could be days away from the debuts of Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale and while their additions have raised the profile in California, the team has been doing perfectly well without them and look to build on a run of four wins and a draw in this match. To be fair, the Whitecaps have been going very well in recent times too, especially at home, and they merit respect having taken 11 points from their last five matches at BC Field. While I don’t think LAFC will cruise to victory in this match, I do expect them to have too much for their hosts here, especially in attacking areas and so I’ll go with the current Supporters’ Shield pacesetters.
