The MLS 2022 season continues on Saturday when another round of matches in the competition gets underway and after the USA were drawn against England in the World Cup later in the year there will naturally be a greater emphasis on this league for a while.
There are 10 matches on show over the course of the night and amazingly eight of them can be watched on TV for us who are in the UK, although you’ll need a couple of devices as some clash. All 10 games are available with the bookmakers too.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off and TV in brackets)
Orlando City SC v Chicago Fire FC (18.00 – Free Sports)
Inter Miami CF v New England Revolution (20.00 – Free Sports)
New York Red Bulls v CF Montréal (21.00 – Sky Football)
Philadelphia Union v Columbus Crew (23.00 – Free Sports)
LA Galaxy v Los Angeles Football Club (00.30 – Sky Football)
Real Salt Lake v Toronto FC (01.00 Free Sports)
FC Dallas v Colorado Rapids (01.30)
Houston Dynamo FC v San Jose Earthquakes (01.30)
Sporting Kansas City v Nashville SC (01.30)
Vancouver Whitecaps FC v Portland Timbers (03.00 – Free Sports)
Big Matches
One match absolutely jumps off the page when you look down the card on Saturday evening and that is the first instalment of ‘El Trafico’ as LA Galaxy host their rivals Los Angeles FC in what is one of the most entertaining derbies in world football. There is a pretty big clash in the Eastern Conference as well as the current leaders Philadelphia Union take on the 2020 champions Columbus Crew. Both the current second placed teams in each conference are also in action on Saturday evening. Real Salt Lake have an interesting looking clash with Toronto FC while New York Red Bulls take on a very inconsistent CF Montreal side.
Best of the Rest
There is a clash in the Cascadia Cup to round off the evening when the Vancouver Whitecaps play host to rivals Portland Timbers while the Supporters’ Shield holders New England Revolution head to arguably the worst team in MLS at present in Inter Miami. The action begins in Florida when two Eastern Conference sides meet as Orlando City host the undefeated Chicago Fire while elsewhere Sporting Kansas City take on Nashville SC, Houston Dynamo welcome the San Jose Earthquakes to Texas and FC Dallas go up against Colorado Rapids.
Betting
I’ll take the one bet over the course of the night and it comes in that high profile clash in California where LA Galaxy take on Los Angeles FC. If you have watched this derby since LAFC came into MLS then you will know it has a historical trend of goals and not just a few of them, there have been some absolutely crazy and epic contests between these two sides. I think it is fair to say that neither of these sides are as good as they were a few years ago but there is still plenty of attacking quality on the pitch.
This is a rivalry that is brewing nicely and in America derbies tend to be free flowing and flourish with the intent to win rather than over here where teams are scared to lose and let their supporters down. LAFC go in here off the back of a 4-2 win in Orlando while Galaxy won 3-1 in Portland last time out. In Carlos Vela, Douglas Costa and Chicarito there are goals on this pitch and with scores such as 4-3, 3-2, 3-3, 5-3, 6-2 and 3-3 in previous seasons when these two combine the goals tend to flow. I like over 3 in this one.
