MLS 2022 – Sunday 17th April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The current round of matches in the MLS conclude on Sunday evening with another two games with some decent sides on show which should make for a quality night of football on the other side of the pond.

Among the teams on show are the champions New York City FC and all eyes will be on them to see if they can kick their title defence into life. One of the two matches are live on TV in the UK for us to enjoy and the other will be shown via the bookmaker streams.

New York City FC vs Real Salt Lake (18.00)

The opening match of the night is the one which features the champions New York City FC. They host the Western Conference finalists from last season in Real Salt Lake in a match between two sides who would have been on the shortlist as title contenders heading into the campaign.

It hasn’t gone to plan for the champions just yet. They have won just one of their five matches in MLS and suffered an exit from the Champions League in midweek so they could still be reeling from that. We saw on Saturday evening that Seattle Sounders struggled after the exertions of midweek and there has to be a chance that NYCFC do likewise, especially if they are forced to rotate their side with the short turnaround. Real Salt Lake have made a decent enough start to the season, losing just one of their opening seven matches and that came in the international break so we can cut them a little bit of slack for that. Real Salt Lake showed towards the end of last season that they can be tough to beat on their travels and they’ve already won in New England this term. Whether they win here or not I’m not sure but freshness could well be a factor and I think that can help RSL avoid defeat even if they don’t go on and win the game.

Los Angeles FC vs Sporting Kansas City (21.00 – Sky Football & Sky Mix)

The second match of the evening comes from California where two of the bigger names in the Western Conference collides as Los Angeles FC will be looking to make up for their derby defeat last weekend when they host Sporting Kansas City.

Kansas City have been very ordinary on their travels this season which is something which is going to have to change if they are going to get anything out of a tough trip to Los Angeles. LAFC are clearly enjoying having their star man Carlos Vela back and playing well and there are a number of players in their squad which are just starting to come to the boil nicely. The season hasn’t really got started for Sporting KC just yet so they are probably under a bit of pressure to deliver the goods here. Both sides have a little bit to prove. I fancy LAFC will use home advantage to win this one but the odds on them winning are plenty short enough so I’ll sit this last game of the weekend out.
