MLS 2022 – Sunday 22nd May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the MLS season concludes on Sunday on what is actually a bumper day of action after so many games were nudged back after the midweek round of games ahead of this weekend.

That means we have 10 matches to enjoy over the course of Sunday evening and four of those are live on the two main TV channels which cover this league in the UK. Nobody needs me to remind them that all the games are live on the bookmaker streams.

Big Matches

The televised action for us in the UK begins in the Big Apple on Sunday evening when the champions New York City FC play host to a Chicago Fire who offered signs of life at the other team in New York in midweek, albeit without getting over the line. That side, New York Red Bulls, will look to build on their late equaliser against the Fire when they head to Florida to take on an Inter Miami side who are beginning to show an identity even if they don’t have the results to match. The final two televised matches both come at the home of Western Conference sides. The first of them sees LA Galaxy playing host to Houston Dynamo while the final game of the day sees Portland Timbers hosting the leaders of the Eastern Conference in Philadelphia Union.

Best of the Rest

The action begins at the Saputo Stadium where CF Montreal will look to bounce back from their defeat in midweek when they host a Real Salt Lake side who don’t tend to travel too well. Austin FC sae Los Angeles FC overtake them at the top of the Western Conference table on Saturday evening but they will have the chance to move back to the summit when they welcome Orlando City to Texas. Should Austin fail to win then FC Dallas could end the night in second place in the West if they can pick up the win when they host Minnesota United. There could be all sorts of fireworks at PayPal Park when the San Jose Earthquakes host Sporting Kansas City.

Betting

There are a couple of matches on Sunday evening where I expect the goals to flow and the first of those comes at Citi Field where the New York City FC attack can enjoy themselves against the Chicago Fire, who themselves might fancy their chances of getting joy at the top end of the pitch with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings. I’ve mentioned before about the quality of this New York City FC attack and at home is where they really tend to shine. Chicago looked a bit all over the place at the back in midweek and they have a goalkeeper who a lot is thought of but he’s been responsible for a couple of goals against them in recent times so his confidence could be vulnerable. Whichever end they come I expect to see goals in this one.

The other match where goals should flow regularly is the one between the San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City, two sides who score plenty of goals but concede them at a pretty crazy rate as well. Matches at PayPal Park this season average almost 4.5 goals per game while Sporting Kansas City away matches are not a million miles behind at just under 3.5 goals per game. Admittedly it isn’t ideal that Daniel Salloi is going to be suspended here but there is still enough in this Kansas City side to get after an open San Jose team. The Earthquakes can score for fun when they are on it so goals looks a pretty obvious bet here too.
