MLS 2022 – Wednesday 5th October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

There is one more evening of action in the MLS campaign before Decision Day comes along on Sunday. It takes place on Wednesday as two matches get played out on what is a huge night for the four teams involved.

Both matches come from the Eastern Conference and involve the last two sides currently in the play-offs and the first two teams outside the top seven. One of the matches is live on TV and the other will be available with the bookmakers.

Charlotte FC vs Columbus Crew (00.00)

The two teams outside the play-offs looking in get the action underway on what is a must-win night for the new boys Charlotte FC when they play host to a Columbus Crew, who will still be alive going into Decision Day, but who will be in control of their own destiny with a win.

Charlotte FC have had their backs to the wall for the last three matches but they have won them all. Their victory over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, and the emphatic nature of it, will have given them plenty of confidence. I don’t know whether all the NFL markings on the pitch give them more of a home advantage than they might normally have had but if it does they will be confident of winning this. Columbus Crew picked up a good win over New York Red Bulls at the weekend with two late goals earning them that victory so they’ll head to Charlotte feeling better about themselves. These two will only be playing 74 minutes here as this match started on July 30 but was suspended just over 15 minutes in due to inclement weather. The score was 0-0 so you would imagine there will be an attacking intent from the off with the home side having to win to stay alive this season. I’m happy to ignore betting on this one though.

Inter Miami vs Orlando City (01.00 – Free Sports)

The second match of the evening will be a poignant one given the devastation in the Florida area in recent times as Inter Miami welcome Orlando City in a match where the teams in seventh and sixth in the Eastern Conference collide.

These two battle with the winner knowing that their play-off spot will be sealed if Columbus Crew lose the earlier match so there is plenty on this even allowing for the backdrop of the hurricane. When you add in that Gonzalo Higuain announced his retirement at the end of the season earlier in the week there is certainly no lacking motivation for Inter Miami. They have won their last three in all and have lost just one in 12 on home soil and that was to Philadelphia Union who have looked the best team in the Eastern Conference all season. Orlando have lost three of the last four and done it at just the wrong time. That makes me think if there is a winner here it will be the home side.
