It is an exciting time in the MLS 2023 season with the transfer window reopening on Wednesday but before some marquee signings are eligible to compete in the competition we have a set of matches on Tuesday evening to enjoy.
It is Independence Day out in America so the profile and magnitude of these will be elevated. As ever you can see them on the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV or via the bookmakers who do live streaming.
Tuesday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
Inter Miami CF v Columbus Crew (00.30)
Orlando City SC v Toronto FC (00.30)
FC Dallas v D.C. United (01.30)
Colorado Rapids v Portland Timbers (02.30)
LA Galaxy v Los Angeles Football Club (03.30)

Preview
The standout match on Independence Day is the last one to kick off as the latest MLS version of ‘El Trafico’ as LA Galaxy host the champions Los Angeles FC in a match which was originally scheduled for the opening night of the season but was forced into this slot after bad weather. The match will be held at the Rose Bowl in California and is set to break the record for an MLS attendance with more than 80,000 fans set to be inside the stadium to witness two teams who really don’t like each other battling it out.
The action actually begins in Miami where Inter Miami, a few days away from getting Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi added to their roster, take on Columbus Crew while at the same time Orlando City host a troubled Toronto FC side. The other two matches are hosted by Western Conference clubs as FC Dallas look to build on their win over LAFC at the weekend when they entertain DC United while Colorado Rapids will take on the Portland Timbers.
Betting
All eyes might be on ‘El Trafico’ on Tuesday evening but the betting eye will be on Exploria Stadium for me where Orlando City host a Toronto FC side who have plenty of issues both on the pitch and off of it. They sacked Bob Bradley and his sporting director last week in the hope of turning their fortunes around but there was certainly no evidence of that in another tame loss at home to Real Salt Lake at the weekend and now they have to go on their travels which is never easy in MLS.
Orlando City are in a good run of form at the minute, form which they enhanced with a good win over Chicago Fire at the weekend, and they will be looking for a second successive win which will see them end the week in sixth in the Eastern Conference and potentially level with fourth spot, which is the initial aim to get a home draw in the play-offs. Orlando have one loss in their last 10 and now host a Toronto side without a win on the road all season and who have only scored seven goals in 10 games on their travels and who are without players away at the Gold Cup. This feels like a comfortable home win to me.
