Big Matches

The standout clash on Wednesday evening is the one between the current Supporters’ Shield leaders Inter Miami and the champions Columbus Crew in what you would ordinarily say could be a chance for both to lay a marker down for the remainder of the season but with the big two away for Miami that might not be the case. Real Salt Lake head the way in the Western Conference and they have a road trip to Sporting Kansas City to navigate. FC Cincinnati currently hold the Supporters’ Shield and they play host to Philadelphia Union in another good looking game.

Best of the Rest

Los Angeles FC are the form team in MLS at the minute and they will look to continue that when they go to Austin FC on Wednesday evening while two other teams in decent touch meet in California when LA Galaxy welcome New York City FC. Two of the more entertaining sides meet in that part of the world too when San Jose Earthquakes take on the Portland Timbers while Charlotte FC are another in good touch, especially at home, so they will be glad to be taking on Orlando City SC at the Bank of America Stadium. DC United hosting Atlanta United and FC Dallas going up against Minnesota United are two other matches which appeal.

Betting

I’ll take a couple of bets over the course of Wednesday night with the first of them coming in that high profile clash between Inter Miami and Columbus Crew where I think the away side will down the heavyweight Miami team. This was going to be a tough assignment for the Floridians because they are without Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at the Copa America but two players got sent off in the dramatic win over Philadelphia Union at the weekend so suddenly an aging Miami outfit are starting to run low on resources and with the short turnaround from Saturday to here that certainly isn’t ideal. That isn’t the case for Columbus, who arrive here off the back of four straight away wins which relieves us of any doubts over whether they can get the job done on the road. Columbus have plenty of options across the pitch should they want to make changes and their key players have avoided Copa America call ups. I expect the Crew to show why they are champions and come out on top here. They look good things to me on the Asian handicap.

The other bet I like is the goals between San Jose Earthquakes and Portland Timbers. These two met last month at Providence Park and the Timbers won 4-2 and I expect the goals to continue to flow here. I say that because I have regularly highlighted the goals in games featuring these two. To update that there has now been 64 goals in the 18 Portland games in MLS this season at just over 3.5 per game whereas 69 of them have come in the 17 San Jose matches at just over four per game. These are two of the four worst defences in MLS and two of the better attacks so when it all gets put together I expect to see over 3.25 goals, especially with Portland without a key keeper and defender who are at the Copa America.
