Big Matches

There are two standalone matches on Saturday evening before the main set of games come along and we begin in the Eastern Conference where Charlotte FC play host to Atlanta United in a potentially entertaining opening to the action. When they are done we head to the Western Conference where Real Salt Lake will look to put their Champions Cup exit behind them when they host the Seattle Sounders. The pick of the matches later in the evening sees the first home game of the new expansion team San Diego FC taking place when St Louis City are the visitors to that part of California.

Best of the Rest

A number of other matches take place elsewhere where two of the better teams in the Eastern Conference in recent seasons meet at Subaru Park where the Philadelphia Union host FC Cincinnati while the former champions Columbus Crew make the trip to Gillette Stadium for a clash with the New England Revolution. Two teams who will be looking to be up near the top of the Western Conference this term meet when Portland Timbers play host to Austin FC while San Jose Earthquakes will look to build on their huge 4-0 win last week when they make the trip to Sporting Kansas City. The MLS Cup finalists New York Red Bulls welcome Nashville SC to Red Bull Arena while two of the poorer sides from last term face off when Chicago Fire host DC United.

Betting

There really isn’t a huge amount that I like over the course of the night on Saturday. There was so much transfer activity in the off-season that it will take a few weeks for teams to settle down and we don’t have any form to help us in our quest for bets but whereas I liked a few last weekend I’ll take just the one on Saturday night and that comes from the match between Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati where once again when these two meet I fancy we will see some goals.

These two sides met four times in various guises and competitions and there were 23 goals in those matches and they competed in a pre-season friendly ahead of this campaign last month and there were five more in that. Philadelphia showed last week that despite the players they have lost they still have enough talent in attack and you would imagine that Cincinnati are only going to get better going forward after every match that Evander and Kevin Denkey play together. This is a fixture that naturally brings goals and so over 2.75 in this one feels like a good play.
