The MLS 2025 weekend concludes with the Sunday Night Football, which kicks off a little earlier than usual so that it is done before the Gold Cup final kicks off. It takes us to Lumen Field for a clash between the Seattle Sounders and the Columbus Crew.
Once again there will be full coverage of the 10pm UK time kick off via the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV with an extensive hour-long build-up. If you don’t have that option you can stream the game with the bookmakers.
Seattle Sounders
This has been quite a couple of months for the Seattle Sounders. They have been one of the better teams in what you would have to call a much stronger Western Conference than in previous seasons for the majority of the campaign and then they got to show the world how good they can be when they competed in the FIFA Club World Cup last month. They were beaten in all three matches but they put up a decent showing and will be looking to take that experience into the remainder of the MLS term.
They returned to domestic action with three points against Austin FC last week and while this will be a tougher challenge than that one was, it certainly won’t be anything close to the challenge they faced when they took on the European champions PSG. Seattle have been in decent touch on home soil in the MLS this term and they will be looking for that to help them here. After a period where injuries were really hurting them, they suddenly have close to a full squad to select from.

Columbus Crew
We are used to seeing the Columbus Crew go well in any competition that they are in and they are not just in the race for the Eastern Conference top spot but they are deeply in the Supporters’ Shield conversation and a win here will move them to within two points of leading that particular race in what is shaping up to be a fascinating season. That win will need to come on the road though where victories have been a little harder to come by than usual for the Crew.
The good thing when it comes to previewing a Columbus Crew match is we know exactly how they are going to play. Wilfried Nancy doesn’t change for anyone so expect Columbus to try to dominate the possession and overload the front line when they have the ball and aim to get forward in with intricate passing. They might need to do that here because Columbus are without their two first-choice keepers while three members of their defence are missing through injury and international call ups.
Betting
It is never easy to go against the Columbus Crew, especially when they have beaten the Vancouver Whitecaps and Philadelphia Union in recent times but both of those victories were at Lower.com Field and in their last away match they shipped five in Miami. One of the issues with betting on this match is both teams can be guilty of having lots of play and creating plenty of opportunities but not necessarily putting them away and that puts me off taking the over here.
Seattle Sounders are an efficient side at home and while in an ideal world they would have an out and out number nine at their disposal, there is a suggestion that Jordan Morris is fit to utilise that role here which would be no bad thing. The good thing from a Sounders point of view is that they have the majority of their back line fit and structurally they are strong even if one of two personnel don’t suit the positions the best. I expect a tight match here but if there is a winner it can be the Sounders and given the respective home and away form of the two sides there is just enough juice in the 21/20 on the home side to win.
