MLS 2025 – Sunday 18th May Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The MLS 2025 weekend concludes on Sunday night when we have two big derby matches to enjoy over the course of a double header which should be full of quality with the teams and level of individuals that are on show.

Both matches have full coverage including an extensive build-up via the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV but those who don’t have that option can see both of the games on the bookmaker live streams although you’ll need to be a night owl to watch both.

Inter Miami vs Orlando City SC (00.00)

We open the night with the battle of Florida where Inter Miami play host to rivals Orlando City SC in what should be quite an intriguing battle when you consider the respective form of the two sides in recent times.

Miami go into this match having won just one of their last four matches in MLS and in recent days they have been jetting across America whereas Orlando have gone 10 matches without defeat and will make their way to Chase Stadium confident that they can get a result. I think we should expect to see goals here. Miami won this match 5-0 last season and while I wouldn’t expect anything that one-sided here, goals may well flow at both ends. Both these teams have scored 24 times this season. Miami have done that in 12 matches and Orlando in one more but they are potent in front of goal. You couldn’t call Miami tight defensively, especially to pace and there is plenty of that in his Orlando attack but the one thing we can be sure of is Orlando will have their work cut out to keep this Miami attack out. This feels like it could quickly develop into an end to end battle with Miami controlling the game and Orlando being a danger on the counter and so over 3 goals feels like a good play in this one.

LA Galaxy vs Los Angeles FC (02.00)

The MLS weekend concludes with the opening ‘El Trafico’ of the season as the champions LA Galaxy look for their first win of the season after 14 attempts when they host their arch rivals Los Angeles FC, whose job it is to pile more misery on the Galaxy.

LA Galaxy did produce one of their better performances of the season in Philadelphia in midweek but having led 2-0 only to lose 3-2 they might wish they were just well beaten again. In that match, when the Union pulled it back to 2-1 you could just tell that everyone in a Galaxy shirt thought that they were going to lose 3-2 and that was how it played out. A massive confidence issue when Los Angeles FC come to town isn’t ideal. I guess there is a case to be made that because the form book goes out of the window in these matches that a chance can be given to the Galaxy but I just worry about them if and when they go behind. We saw the impact that had on them at New York Red Bulls last weekend when they were beat 7-0 and an early LAFC goal here could create a bad reaction. Even when they are in front Galaxy don’t look comfortable so this LAFC side, who in the main are very good at the back and are very efficient going forward have to be backed at odds against here. LAFC won on this ground two years ago and look good value to do it again here.
