MLS 2025 – Sunday 29th June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The latest weekend of action in the MLS 2025 season concludes with a double header on Sunday night which includes four of the better teams in Major League Soccer at present as four possible MLS Cup challengers look to entertain us.

As ever, both matches will be available to watch live via the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV with the first game having an hour long build-up. The bookmaker live streams will show both of the games without the build-up.

Columbus Crew vs Philadelphia Union (23.00)

We head to the Eastern Conference for the opening match of the night as arguably the best team in the division, Columbus Crew, host the current leaders in the form of the Philadelphia Union in what looks a cracking opener to the night.

The coverage and the build-up will centre around Daniel Gazdag going up against the Philadelphia Union for the second time since he left Subaru Park but actually this is a match that could well be about laying a marker down for what lies ahead because it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone were these two to be lining up in the Eastern Conference final for a shot at MLS Cup in November. The Crew go into this match off the back of two very good home wins over the Vancouver Whitecaps and Atlanta United whereas despite being without some players who have been away at the Gold Cup, the Union have maintained their form with three wins in their last four, including a win over Chicago in midweek. I think it is safe to expect to see goals here. Columbus love pressing high and dominating the play but Philadelphia are quite capable of missing out the press and getting to work with their own pressure high up the pitch so it isn’t a surprise to see that the reverse meeting was 2-2 earlier in the season. The two met twice here last season and Columbus won 3-1 in Leagues Cup and 3-2 in MLS and a similar scoreline is expected here. The goal line for this one is over 3.25 goals which feels well within range for two excellent attacking sides.

Los Angeles FC vs Vancouver Whitecaps (02.30)

The second match of the night takes us to the Western Conference as two of the better sides battle it out for three points when Los Angeles FC play host to the Vancouver Whitecaps as the growing rivalry between these two teams continues.

LAFC return from playing in the Club World Cup and having probably not delivered the performances that they would have wanted to in that competition, they might feel that they have something to prove to people here. Vancouver came flying out of the blocks but they have just hit the skids a little in the last few weeks after a humbling in the Champions Cup final and then injuries and international call ups hampering them. That has seen them slip four points behind San Diego FC in the Western Conference and five points behind Philadelphia Union in the race for the Supporters’ Shield but the Canadians have a couple of games in hand of both sides, one of which is here in terms of San Diego. These two teams are no strangers to each other. They seem to have drawn each other in everything recently. They have met 13 times since the beginning of 2023 with Los Angeles FC coming out on top in eight of those matches and drawing another two so the Californians will be looking to continue that dominance here whereas the Whitecaps will be out to show that they are the best team in the West. Once again I think goals are on the menu here. We saw how exposed the Vancouver defence can be in midweek when San Diego put five past it and LAFC will want to show they are vibrant enough in attack. LAFC’s defence has been stretched out a fair bit in the last couple of weeks and there are goals in this Vancouver side even with their absences. I’m very surprised we get a 2.5 goal line here and I’m more than happy to be on the over.
