MLS Playoffs 2019 – Sunday 20th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The first round of the MLS Playoffs concludes on Sunday evening with the final two matches being played out as we name the Conference semi-finals which take place later in the week. We’ve seen four excellent matches and should get two more here.

Both matches on Sunday evening are live on TV for those of us who are in the UK, as the entire playoff series will be, so there is no reason to miss a minute of what should be an entertaining night of football.

Philadelphia Union vs New York Red Bulls (20.00)

The first action of the night comes from the Eastern Conference where we find out who travels to Atlanta United in the second round of the playoffs later in the week, as the Philadelphia Union host the New York Red Bulls.

The Union spent most of the season on top of the Eastern Conference but were unable to keep up their form and in the end they were clinging on for a home tie for a little while. Usually the Red Bulls dominate the regular season and falter in the playoffs so they will be out to do things in reverse here and peak for the playoffs. I have to say I’ve got an inkling that the Red Bulls will come through this but it isn’t enough of one to act on financially.

Minnesota United vs LA Galaxy (01.00)

The last match in the first round of the playoffs in the Western Conference could be the best of the lot and that is saying something based on what we’ve seen already. Minnesota United, in their postseason debut, host LA Galaxy for a shot at Supporters’ Shield winners LAFC in midweek.

I think we are in for a cracker here and a high scoring match. I was worried heading into the weekend that the teams would clam up and not deliver what we usually see each week but I need not have worried because the goals kept on flowing and I expect them to do so again here too. Both these sides have goals in them and this looks like one of those classic ebb and flow cup ties that MLS is famous for. I’ll take over 3.25 goals here.
