MLS Playoffs 2019 – Thursday 24th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The line up for the MLS Conference finals will be finalised on Thursday evening when the last two semi-finals take place on what promises to be a fantastic night of football across the pond in the early hours of Friday morning.

We have the defending champions continuing their title defence in one of the two matches while the latest offering of ‘El Trafico’ is a perfect way to round off a wonderful week of postseason action in the MLS.

Atlanta United vs Philadelphia Union (01.00)

The first of the two matches on the night comes from Mercedes-Benz Stadium as Atlanta United look to make it back to the Eastern Conference final when they host a Philadelphia Union who were involved in an epic contest at the weekend.

The Union came from 3-1 down to beat New York Red Bulls 4-3 after extra time for their first postseason victory and they will be hoping those kind of victories are like London buses. Atlanta United have shown their knockout football prowess over the last couple of years and will be looking to do that once again here.

Atlanta only won 1-0 at the weekend but I’m expecting to see more goals here. Philadelphia Union have a lot of goals in them and Michael Parkhurst is going to be a big loss for the home side. We know all about Atlanta’s scoring potential and the Union have been known to leak a few goals so I like over 3 in this one.

Los Angeles FC vs LA Galaxy (03.30)

The Supporters’ Shield winners Los Angeles FC play their first match of the postseason in the last of the Conference semi-finals when they take on LA Galaxy in a match which is not short of hype and in which previous meetings between the two have never disappointed.

LAFC have been the best side in MLS this term but they did wobble a little towards the end of the season when motivation was lacking after they had wrapped up top spot. We’ve already seen the number one seeds in the Eastern Conference fall by the wayside so LAFC will be looking to avoid going the same way. LA Galaxy weren’t fantastic against Minnesota United on Sunday night but they got the job done and live to collide with their city rivals in the latest ‘El Trafico’.

The goal line here is 3.75 which looks very high for a playoff match but it might not be high enough. There were five goals and six in the two regular season meetings between these two and five of Galaxy’s last nine have had six goals or more in them. Five of LAFC’s last nine have had four goals in them so I’m expecting the goals to flow again here. I’ll take the over because matches between these two ignite in no time.
