NatWest T20 Blast – Sunday 17th July Matches Betting Preview

There are two matches flying under the radar in the NatWest T20 Blast on Sunday afternoon with the top end of both groups likely to be altered across the games. In the South Group, Gloucestershire can secure a home quarter final if they beat an Essex side who are chasing a quarter final spot while Birmingham Bears will move back into the top four if they beat Leicestershire.

With the Test match reaching a conclusion on Sunday neither of these matches get the TV treatment but that doesn’t mean that we can’t bet on them! We’ll start with the South Group game.

Gloucestershire vs Essex

Gloucestershire will be full of beans heading into this match after pulling off a remarkable win over Essex in the Championship on Saturday and a return to the scene of that success at Cheltenham the following day should ensure there is a real spring in their step. Essex will be spitting feathers after that defeat and they’ll need to ensure that those feelings don’t linger into this match.

Gloucestershire probably didn’t need any extra boost to their emotions because they are playing excellent cricket in this format of the game and their win over Glamorgan last week ensured they will be in the quarter finals. Now it is about getting a home draw and trying to top the group and a win here would go a long way to achieving that.

Essex sit just outside the top four in the South Group and a win here will move them right back among the mix to qualify for the quarter finals. You would say that is the minimum requirement for a squad as talented as theirs but that only goes to show how tough this group is at the minute.

Gloucestershire have already thrashed Essex in this competition this season and that combined with Saturday’s win should see them full of confidence here. I always want the best bowling side on my side in this format and that is definitely the home side here and so my money is on them to continue their march in this competition.

Birmingham Bears vs Leicestershire

This is a huge match for the Birmingham Bears and that is reflected in the prices and although I think they will win the game I am wary of taking a side like Leicester on who have nothing to play for but who this competition is their strength and they certainly won’t throw the towel in just because they can’t make it into the quarter finals.

This will be a decent test of Birmingham’s credentials. There is big pressure on them here and if they can win that will stand them in good stead but I can’t find a match so I’ll sit this one out and observe it from afar.
