New Zealand vs India – 2nd ODI Tips and Betting Preview

The ODI series between New Zealand and India continues on Sunday when the two nations meet in the second game of the scheduled three. After getting things going in Auckland we move to Hamilton for this one.

New Zealand won a high scoring opening game of the series and they will be able to claim the spoils with a match to spare if they come out on top here. India have to win here to take the series to a decider on Wednesday.

New Zealand

I always thought that New Zealand would be a lot more comfortable in the 50 over sphere than they were in the 20 over one and that was how it proved to be in that opening match. Their bowlers were able to settle into their spells much better and bowl to their fields and more importantly than that their batters are so much happier when there isn’t a need for them to press the maximum aggression button right from the off.

There wasn’t too much to dislike in that opening ODI for New Zealand. You could argue that one or two bowlers were a little more expensive than they would have wanted but then you have to remember the dimensions of the Eden Park ground and cut them some slack. The good thing for the Kiwis is some players were playing their first international cricket in a while so there might be some natural improvement to come from them.

India

After winning the T20 series, India would have been looking to get off to a decent start in the ODI series but that isn’t how things worked out. They did actually begin the opening game well with the bat with the openers largely employed to set the innings up for the rest of the batters to come, but as it happened they scored quickly at the same time. Unfortunately for India the middle order failed to take advantage of that and in the end they could only put up a score which was par if it was that good.

I think India will want to see more from their bowlers in this match. They were blunted quite easily by the New Zealand batters and then when the pedal was put down the bowlers didn’t really have too much in the way of answers. They will also want more from their middle order, especially when you consider that even in the T20 which they won it was only really Suryakumar Yadav who got going with the bat in hand in that one.

Team News

Jimmy Neesham missed the opening match with what was described as a niggle. You wouldn’t have thought that he would be over that in the space of 48 hours but if he is he could come into the side in place of Adam Milne to add batting depth.

India decided to go into battle in the first game without Deepak Chahar but with New Zealand getting away from them early they might bring in a specialist new ball bowler with Arshdeep Singh looking like he could do with a rest.

Betting

It looks like we might have to dodge some showers in this match but if they don’t come to pass then I’m expecting another high scoring match here on a ground where the wicket is even more batter friendly than at Eden Park where really the biggest thing in the favour of the batters is the size of the straight boundaries. They are not exactly massive here at Seddon Park though and in fact if you look at the ground as a whole more are probably accessible here that Eden Park.

Clearly these two sides are in decent touch with the bat in hand. There might even be more to come from them too when you consider that India have just put up over 300 with Suryakumar Yadav not getting many there is definitely more to come from them. Both teams are missing key bowlers which should only assist the batters further so if the rain does stay away I’m expecting a high scoring game with another huge boundary count.
