NFL 2018 – Seattle Seahawks @ Chicago Bears Betting Preview

The second week of action in the NFL concludes with the Monday Night Football, which this week comes from Soldier Field as two sides who lost their opening match do battle when the Chicago Bears host the Seattle Seahawks.

No team wants to begin the season with successive losses so there will be something of a desperation to win here and get their campaign up and running. Both sides are under pressure to do well after off-season decisions too.

Chicago Bears

I would imagine the Chicago Bears have spent much of the week wondering how on earth Aaron Rodgers beat them on one leg in their opening game but they can’t swell too much on that as they have a game on win on Monday night. This is their first home game in charge for Matt Nagy and it is important his side deliver a complete performance.

All eyes are naturally going to be on Khalil Mack, and the investment they have put into him, and indeed this elite Chicago defence, they really need to ensure they make good progress. While the defensive side of the ball looks to have been taken care of they will need big plays from their offense to maximise the quality that is in their defence.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks will have been disappointed to go down to a defeat to the Denver Broncos in their opening match and they will be keen to avoid successive defeats. They are under something of a transition period in defence with the Legion of Boom starting to break up so they are going to need to rely on their offense much more to pick up victories.

With that in mind they would have preferred Doug Baldwin to be available but he is out for this match while Bobby Wagner is out in the linebacker position as well. The Baldwin injury will mean Russell Wilson will need to spread his attack around once again with Brandon Marshall someone who could come back to haunt a former club.

Betting

I’m tempted to back the over in the points for this one but I’m a little on edge because I’m not convinced Mitchell Trubisky is one to rely on in the bright lights of a primetime game and this Chicago defence has so much going for it that it may well be able to restrict the Seahawks. With that in mind I’ll head elsewhere.

It is quite possible that the Seahawks offensive line is the worst in football and that’s a big concern here. You can’t block Khalil Mack with a decent line let alone a weak one and he could have a field day in search of Russell Wilson. If he doesn’t then rookie Roquan Smith and Akiem Hicks will be a threat too. The Green Bay pass rush got to Trubisky for three sacks last week so Seattle should register sacks too. They might not need to though to see a line of 5.5 sacks covered. I’m happy to go over that line.
