NFL 2018 – Week 1 Sunday Games Betting Preview

The first Sunday of the NFL season is upon us with a whole batch of matches up and down America as plenty more teams get their campaigns going in the two regular kick off slots. There is a lot of anticipation around this season so for more it will be a relief to get going.

As always in the UK we have two matches live on TV while Redzone will keep us up to date with how all the others are going. There is the usual social media coverage and game pass streams as well for us to use.

1pm Kick Offs (6pm UK time)

There are a couple of divisional battles in the early matches with Tampa Bay making the trip to New Orleans for a NFC South clash while in the AFC North the Pittsburgh Steelers will look to show they can cope without Le’Veon Bell when they head to Ohio to take on the Cleveland Browns.

The TV game in this set of matches comes from the Super Bowl LII hosts Minnesota Vikings who face San Francisco 49ers in a battle of two good defences and potentially underrated offenses. Elsewhere Baltimore Ravens will go up against the Buffalo Bills while the Indianapolis Colts will look to use Andrew Luck to overcome the Cincinnati Bengals. Miami Dolphins welcome the Tennessee Titans to Florida while two good sides meet at Foxboro when the New England Patriots host the Houston Texans. New York Giants host the Jacksonville Jaguars in the other game.

4.05/4.25pm Kick Offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

There is one divisional battle among the four matches taking place on the west coast. Patrick Mahomes first competitive action as a starting quarterback sees him and his Kansas City Chiefs side heading to California to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. Elsewhere the Arizona Cardinals take on the Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers meet the Dallas Cowboys which is the TV offering among these four for us in the UK while recent Super Bowl winners collide in Colorado when the Denver Broncos host the Seattle Seahawks.

Betting

We’ll get stuck into the player markets a bit more over the course of the season but for the opening Sunday there are two bets we will take on with the first of them being the Baltimore Ravens who I think will have a good deal too much for the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo have all sorts of issues at the quarterback position and while they have a good season to build on they have almost got to regress this season. Baltimore have provided Joe Flacco with many more weapons this season and with the Ravens defence always a solid unit I’m expecting a decent home win. Ravens can cover 7.5pts.

Later on in the evening I’m expecting the Los Angeles Chargers to feast on a Kansas City Chiefs defence that has been obliterated with issues since last season. There will be a fair bit of pressure on Mahomes at quarterback for the Chiefs too and while I expect him to cope long-term there could easily be a few nerves for the new man to begin with. This looks to be an excellent chance for the Chargers to make a rare good start to the campaign and I’ll back them to cover 3.5pts.

Week 1 accumulator

Last season we had lots of requests for accumulators to follow over the course of a Sunday evening so for this season we will provide one each week. As with our US Open acca’s they won’t go on our record but we’ll keep an update on their progress in each weekly thread. Here is our week one offering.
