NFL 2019 – Cincinnati Bengals @ Los Angeles Rams Tips and Betting Preview

The NFL is back in London on Sunday with the first of the two matches to take place at Wembley Stadium this season. It sees the Los Angeles Rams taking on the Cincinnati Bengals on what is always a showpiece occasion.

We’ve already seen two competitive matches in London this season, but on paper at least, this one looks like it might be a little more one-sided with the Rams expected to dominate a side who are still looking for their first victory of the campaign.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams were expected to dominate the NFC West this season and go very close to a return to the Super Bowl, but that isn’t how it has played out to date and they head to Wembley with a 4-3 record after struggling for much of the campaign. Their offense hasn’t really hit the heights that it did last season and that will need to change if they are going to push on and make the playoffs once again.

One area where the Rams should show significant improvement over the coming weeks is defensively. I say that because the trade for Jalen Ramsey should give their impressive pass rush even more time to get to the quarterback, which should in turn result in them having opponents in trouble throughout. If their offense can take confidence off the back of that then they are going to be a dangerous force over the second half of the campaign.

Cincinnati Bengals

If it could go wrong for the Cincinnati Bengals this season it has done and already they are just looking to restore pride. I think many people expected them to be the worst team in the AFC North but I don’t think as many will have seen a 0-7 start coming for the Bengals. We should highlight that injuries have really not helped their cause this term, but you can only use that as an excuse for so long to be fair.

To be fair to the Bengals, they have been more competitive than a 0-7 record would suggest. Four of those seven defeats have been by six points or less so rarely are they getting thrashed. Ultimately though a loss is still a loss and they are going to need their offense to begin to fire if they are going to pick up a run of wins.

Betting

The Los Angeles Rams are being asked to cover 12pts here but I’m not so sure their offense is firing well enough to cover that. I certainly wouldn’t want to be on the Bengals in any way but I’m in no rush to pile into the Rams to cover such a big score even though I would edge that way if a gun was put to my head and I had to bet on the market.

The punt I would rather be on though is under 46.5pts which looks a little high to me. I say that because although they are 0-7, the Bengals have only conceded more than 27pts once this term and have only scored more than 20 once as well. I’ve mentioned above how I expect the Rams’ defence to improve but with their offense not firing on all cylinders this just looks like a match where 46.5pts is unlikely.
