We have been given a pre-Christmas treat this weekend with a triple header of action in the NFL on Saturday evening, a wonderful day of action which begins in Tampa Bay where the Buccaneers host the Houston Texans in a huge match for the visiting side.
They gave themselves some breathing space in the race for the AFC South title last week and will win that and secure their postseason berth should they come out on top here. Tampa Bay are playing purely for pride.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This was a season that promised a little bit more than it is going to get for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but whatever happens in their final two matches, their 7-7 record at this stage does represent an improvement and gives them something to build on and look forward to when they come to think about next season. They will want to finish in style though and a win here would be a good way to begin that.
They have the leading passer in the division this season in Jameis Winston and he’ll be chaser the top passing honour, although he will be without his two best receivers in Chris Godwin and Mike Evans which might not help them. It has largely been their defence which has stopped the Bucs from being even more competitive in terms of postseason chances this season so they will be out to prove a point here.

Houston Texans
You have to give the Houston Texans plenty of credit. There were a lot of people who thought they were getting the Tennessee Titans at the wrong time last week but they took no notice of that, to come out on top and be in complete control of their own destiny now. They probably didn’t need an extra motivation here but the lure of winning the division and securing a home playoff game will act as everything that they do need.
The Texans have been great to watch in recent times. They have always had a dynamic offense under DeShaun Watson at quarterback but their pass rush being depleted has left them exposed a little more in defensive areas so games are often good to watch. It would be foolish to expect anything different here as they go on the road to a very potent side, so we should be in for another good Texans tussle.
Betting
I’m expecting to see points in this match and plenty of them. There is no reason for Jameis Winston not to give the ball some air and look to rack up the passing yards against an ordinary passing defence but on the opposite side of that you would think the Houston Texans’ offense will get plenty of joy attacking this Tampa defence, which has leaked points regularly throughout the season.
I’m a little surprised that this line is just 50.5pts for this match. Tampa Bay have scored 30pts or more in five of their last seven matches while Houston are not short of points themselves. Given the quality that we have on show and the dynamic of the match in front of us I think the over 50.5 points is the way forward in this one.
