NFL 2019 – New York Giants @ New England Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

We begin week six of the NFL season with the champions New England Patriots on show when they host the New York Giants in the latest offering of the Thursday Night Football, one in which many intriguing things will be under the microscope.

The Patriots have cruised to a 5-0 record and already they look set to be in the play-offs putting up a strong showing on their defence of the Super Bowl crown. There has been a lot of doom and gloom around the Giants but they are only 2-3 for the season which is no disaster.

New England Patriots

There were one or two question marks around the New England Patriots heading into the season. Could Tom Brady do it again at his advanced age? Would they be able to cope without Rob Gronkowski? Well the answer to both those questions is quite clearly yes and now everyone has gone back into the position of assuming the Patriots are the team to beat, which they may very well be although I don’t suspect we are going to find too much out about them in that regard here.

You could put up a strong argument that the Patriots haven’t beaten much this season, only the Buffalo Bills have more than one win on their ledger of the teams they have overcome, but it is the way they have been winning the matches. Only the New York Jets have scored more than 10pts against the Patriots, while New England have scored 30pts in all but one of the matches they have played.

New York Giants

There was an air of gloom around the Giants heading into the campaign after a poor season last term and when Eli Manning continued to stink the place out those doubts looked to be spot on. To their credit it didn’t take long for them to make the switch to Daniel Jones, under whom they have been a lot more competitive despite missing some pretty big players due to injury. That should give them encouragement for the long term but at the same time this is a tough ask.

Big Blue saw a two game winning run ended last week when they ran into a pretty hot Minnesota Vikings but the good thing is they have nothing to lose here so they can give it a right good go. The bad thing is they are without three huge players in Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and quite possible Evan Engram as well. There were doubts over a few linebackers but they are all expected to play which is something.

Betting

I can’t say there is a huge amount that I like in this match if I’m honest. It is hard to bet on New England Patriots matches at the minute because they’re going to win a lot more than they lose but they are being asked to give up 16.5pts here which they’ll probably cover but on a Thursday night you need to be seeing a doctor to be getting involved in those sort of lines.

I’ll take a small punt on Josh Gordon to score anytime. We know he is a receiving threat but he can also be a rushing one as well in certain plays and with Philip Dorsett out and Julian Edelman’s game time likely to be limited in that he won’t need to be risked in New England go clear, Gordon looks like he can be the man targeted a few times. At 6/4 he’s a decent price to score.
