NFL 2020 – Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

There is one match left in the penultimate week of the NFL regular season and it comes along in the Monday Night Football, which this week sees two AFC East rivals going at it when the New England Patriots host the division winners Buffalo Bills.

There isn’t a huge amount at stake from a competitive point of view as far as the season is concerned but the Patriots will be looking to remind the Bills that their grip on the AFC East title is a short lived one. The Bills will be out to highlight that the Patriots’ dominance of the division is well and truly over.

New England Patriots

This was never going to be the easiest season for the New England Patriots after the loss of Tom Brady to begin with, but having big implications with the Covid-19 virus earlier in the campaign it became a lot tougher. Even then though I’m sure most associated with the Patriots will be disappointed that they go into this match 6-8 for the season and already eliminated from any chance of being around for the postseason.

The Patriots were primed to launch a late dart into the play-offs a couple of weeks ago when they were 6-6 for the season but losses to the Los Angeles Rams and the Miami Dolphins, by no means terrible losses in terms of opposition strength, have seen those hopes disappear. They will be hoping to find some improvement on offense over the last couple of games because their defence is back to performing well enough again.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills were expected to win the division before a ball was thrown this season and that is exactly how it has played out. They have clearly come on from last term and that combined with the dropping off of the New England Patriots has left a pretty big gap between the two teams, a gap which the Bills will be out to emphasise here as they prepare for another postseason in which this time they will host a game.

The Buffalo Bills offense has made huge strides this season and they have come out on top in shootouts and battered teams as a result, but they have also shown they can get involved in defensive battles and win as well, something which will see them carrying a lot of confidence into the play-offs with them regardless of what happens here and next week. The Bills have won seven of their last eight matches with the one they didn’t win being that ridiculous play by Arizona a few weeks ago.

Betting

Although the New England Patriots aren’t playing for a while lot here I do think they’ll contribute to what should be a decent game, and one where the offensive plays can be pretty strong. Josh Allen is on course for a franchise record breaking season and has weapons wherever he looks in the passing game, and even against a strong New England secondary I expect him to trust his receivers to get the job done in this match.

Cam Newton and the Patriots offense has nothing to lose here. They are done for the season so they can give the ball a bit of air or draw up some funky run plays that brings out the best in him and as such I’m expecting this final Monday Night Football of the season to be entertaining and higher scoring than the first meeting between the two. There were 45pts on that occasion and you can get a 46.5pt line for this one. I like the over.
