NFL 2020 – Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans Tips and Betting Preview

We have reached week 10 of the NFL season and it gets going with a good old divisional showdown on Thursday night when the Tennessee Titans take on the Indianapolis Colts with top spot in the AFC South the reward for the winners.

The Titans currently lead the way in the division and they can take a pretty mighty step towards winning it if they can come away with a win here. Indianapolis are only a game behind though and will control their own destiny if they are victorious here.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans blasted out of the traps this season winning their first five matches but then they hit a sticky slot when they dropped two matches in a row, although the first of those defeats was to the Pittsburgh Steelers and everyone is losing to them so that wasn’t a huge negative it must be said. The loss to the Cincinnati Bengals was one they gave to the field but they bounced back with a good win over Chicago Bears last week to buoy them for this week.

The obvious concern with the Titans is that their defence hasn’t really shown up at times this season. They have leaked a huge amount of points so it is credit to their offense that they have won six games. The other concern is that the offensive line is beginning to struggle and they will certainly need to put that right as quickly as they can. They have been outcoached in a few matches as well which would be another concern.

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have promised plenty this season but they haven’t found that consistency that will propel them into the higher echelons of the AFC and make them start out as possible Super Bowl contenders. They have five wins over three defeats but the losses against Jacksonville and Cleveland in particular have been damaging and they highlight that the Colts really need to find a consistency in performances as well as results.

The positive for the Colts is that they look very strong in all areas of their defence so if they can get things sorted out with their offense and get a decent flow on their offense then there is no reason why they can’t have a big run in the play-offs, whether that comes by winning the division or whether they have to rely on a wildcard. You would think the longer Phillip Rivers spends in this offense the better it will come.

Betting

This is a really interesting match. It is the first Thursday game for a while that we’ve had no Covid or injury issues going into it and as such this is a level sort of match it must be said. I’ve said many a time that I hate playing road teams on Thursday nights and I’m going to stick to my guns as far as that is concerned but the offensive line and the weak coaching of the Titans is enough of a concern for me to swerve taking them too.

The bet I’ll go for instead is for Derrick Henry to rush for more than 78.5 rushing yards over the course of the match. He is one of the best rushers in the league and while he comes up against statistically the third best rushing defence in the league, it is a defence who had to spend an hour stopping the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday and that is a tough unit to keep tackling time after time. They haven’t had a lot of recovery time and looked gassed towards the end of that match. That makes me think that over the four quarters here Henry will eventually get on top and can get this target.
