NFL 2020 – Los Angeles Rams @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tips and Betting Preview

The final match of what has been a compelling week of action in the NFL comes with the Monday Night Football which this week is a big battle in the NFC as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Los Angeles Rams with the wildcard places under the spotlight.

Both these teams take winning records into the contest with them but neither currently lead the way in their respective divisions so this is a match they neither of them can afford to lose without opening the door for others to capitalise.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Having lost both matches to the New Orleans Saints, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t left themselves with a lot of room for complacency or a rough match if they are firstly going to try and hunt down the Saints in the NFC South or secondly to secure a wildcard berth in what is a very competitive Conference where you are going to need quite a few wins in order to secure a spot in the postseason this term.

To be fair to the Buccaneers, after suffering one of their worst defeats of the season to the Saints, they bounced back well to see off the Carolina Panthers in one of their better performances. They will be eager to produce a lot more of the latter and much less of the former. Their defence has been in pretty good form this season so if their powerful offense can live up to the hype then the Bucs should be deeply involved when January comes around but they need to actually do it rather than threaten it.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are fighting hard for their own divisional title. They are so unlucky to be in what is comfortably the best division in football in the NFC West, one which has themselves, the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals all fighting it out for top spot. Given that is the case, the Rams did their chances of topping the division no harm last week when they knocked off the Seahawks and having seen the Cardinals lose already this week, Los Angeles will know just what an opportunity they have ahead of them here.

The Rams actually have the chance to end the week leading the way in the NFC which will be all the incentive they need to perform here. They haven’t covered themselves in glory on the road though which will be a concern to them. Their defence has continued to play tough on the road but their offense has largely been average, something they will not get away with over the course of this match you wouldn’t think.

Betting

I think we have two of the better defences on show here, particularly when it comes to getting to the quarterback, so I see scoring being quite low in this one. The other reason why I think that could be the case is how important the match is for both teams so controlling the clock and playing a bit of safety first football rather than taking the risks and it backfiring. The points line here is 48.5 which just feels a little too high to me.

The more potent offense of the two is the Tampa Bay one but with the likes of Jalen Ramsey in the Rams’ back field likely to take away a significant receiving option, you would expect the output of one or two key cogs in this Buccaneers offense to struggle more than they usually would. Los Angeles’ offense has been very indifferent on the road this season and against a pretty good Bucs defence they are not likely to have things all their own way either. I think that all points towards the under here.
