NFL 2020 Playoffs – Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans Tips and Betting Preview

The Super Wildcard weekend began in strong fashion with three good games on Saturday and we have three more to enjoy on what should be an excellent Sunday to complete the opening round of the NFL playoffs.

The first part of the Sunday triple header sees the AFC South winners Tennessee Titans hosting the Baltimore Ravens with the two sides colliding in the postseason for the second year in succession, albeit with the Titans the home team this time around.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans made it all the way to the AFC Championship game last season where they ran into a rampant Kansas City Chiefs side and they begin their quest to go one better and make it to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1999. Tennessee will have plenty of good memories from last term to fall back on here but they will know that despite being the home team there are few outside of Nashville who expect them to progress.

The Titans have been an offensive machine this season and it would appear that they are going to look to ride that as far as they can. In Derrick Henry they not only have one of the biggest offensive forces in the competition but someone who can control the clock and that might be significant because the weakness of the Tennessee outfit is very much their defence. That may well be the thing that catches them out in the end but when you look at their potential opposition in the AFC, taking their chances in a shootout might not be the worst theory.

Baltimore Ravens

At this stage I think it is fair to say that the Baltimore Ravens have not had the season that they would have desired at the outset, but one of the beauties of the playoffs is that an average or ok season can quickly be turned into a very good one with a couple of wins in January. We’ve seen the Ravens go deep in the postseason in the past, although having to go on their travels for much of the playoffs might be something that counts against them.

It is very much to the credit of the Ravens that despite Covid-19 issues significantly hampering them during the middle of the season, that they could still finish with an 11-5 record, the same as their opponents here. They too have a vibrant offense which resolves a lot around the yardage they pick up on the ground, but where they could have the edge on the Titans is their defence is of a better quality. The Ravens go into this match having won their last five games which could also be important.

Betting

Those who followed us in at the beginning of the season will already have a ticket for the Tennessee Titans to win the Super Bowl and I’m still prepared to ride that out and see how deep into the playoffs we can go with them. That makes me swerve the match outcome although had I not been on the Titans outright the odds against on them to win what will surely be a shootout would have been pretty tempting.

I do expect this to be something of a shootout though. I get that high scoring shootouts in this round of the playoffs tend to be few and far between but with the way the Tennessee Titans are set up I just don’t see how this can’t be full of points. Importantly both teams have livewire quarterbacks who can make big plays and they both have dynamic runners who can pound the ball home in the red zone. When these two met earlier in the season there were 54 points and since then both offenses have caught fire. I think over 54 points can land here.
