NFL 2020 Playoffs – Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Green Bay Packers Tips and Betting Preview

It is a big night in the NFL playoffs on Sunday as the two Conference Championships will be won and lost and placed at Super Bowl LV will be earned. The first game of the two is the NFC decider between the Green Bay Packers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lambeau Field.

The Packers have been the best team in the NFC all season and are a win away from a return to the Super Bowl, whereas the Buccaneers are looking to end a 19-year Super Bowl exile and reach the big dance which just so happens to be at their home ground.

Green Bay Packers

It was a case of picking up where they left off in the regular season for the Green Bay Packers last week. You could argue that the restricted movement of Aaron Donald played into their hands in the win over the Los Angeles Rams and that argument may have some merit, but the way the Packers ran the ball I’m not so sure it would have made too much difference even if the elite defensive star was on top form. In the end it was a pretty comfortable win for the Packers.

The variation of the Green Bay offense could be something they need to utilise here in what promises to be their toughest test to date. The offense is going to be important because their defence is likely to be under siege here from Tom Brady and his talented set of receiving options. The leveller could be the cold weather which might suit the Packers nicely. Aaron Rodgers is surely the MVP in waiting and will look to crown that title in style here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

You got the feeling when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went out and signed Tom Brady as a free agent that the bare minimum for them this term was to make the Championship match. They have done that and the lure of a home Super Bowl has gotten so much closer. This will be the toughest test that the Buccaneers have had in what has been a pretty serene playoff run to date, but they can take confidence from the fact that they thrashed the Packers in the regular season, albeit on their home patch.

Tampa Bay showed last week that as well as having a wonderful aerial offense, they can get the job done on the ground too and if their defence plays to a top level there is no reason why they can’t end the long hiatus from the Super Bowl. You sense there will need to be an improvement on what we’ve seen from the Bucs so far in the postseason as they have played a couple of opponents who didn’t really show up on the day. That isn’t going to happen here.

Betting

What an NFC Championship match we have here! Two of the best to ever play the quarterback position will battle it out in what could be something of a classic. I expect the Green Bay Packers to win the match but the fact that this could be the last chance for Tom Brady to make it to the big dance suggests he isn’t going to go down without a fight, so this could be a high quality and extremely dramatic contest if both teams perform to their top level.

The point spread on the Green Bay Packers is just 3.5 and I think they are good to cover that. They can score quickly and they can chew up the clock through their running backs which is a feature of their side in the postseason. There is no chance that Brady is going to go down without a fight but the Packers defence has enough plays in it to keep him honest and then the best player in the league this season can do the rest and send the Packers to the Super Bowl.
